Hi guys.
This is my first post to this thread. I typically try to stay out of the political threads. However, I wanted to jump in and say hi.
I did receive the email about mailing in the tea bag on April 1. I do plan to do that.
I am a regular viewer of Fox News......Hannity and Beck especially. I guess you can say that I am an ultra conservative.

hi.

Speaking of things sent in e-mails....

those are hilarious. the one i like best is, "quote of the day: there were 1.5 million people at the inauguration, and only 14 missed work".:rotfl2:

did anybody notice this on the bottom of our pages today?

Hey, ya'll, I start my new WAH job tomorrow afternoon! Yay! :cool1:
The testing phases are pretty strenuous.
They are hiring, though, so if you want to know what company, PM me.

I also am interviewing with a couple from my church to be a nanny for their newborn baby. She's an Army officer and has to go back to work April 7th. :sad1:

Well, it looks like the Democrats and Obama have triggered their first trade war. Mexico has announced tariffs for certain American goods coming into their country in retaliation for Congress killing the NAFTA mandated opening of US markets to Mexican trucks.
Mexico to impose sanctions on US exports

A long-simmering trade dispute boiled over into sanctions on Monday after Mexico said it would raise tariffs on $2.4bn of US exports in retaliation for ending a pilot programme to allow Mexican trucks on American roads.

The announcement marks one of the first big tests for trade policy under President Barack Obama, who has sought to tread a fine line between assuaging his domestic constituencies and upholding the US’s international obligations.

Mexico said it would increase tariffs on 90 industrial and agricultural goods, likely to include politically sensitive farm products, after Congress last week killed a pilot programme allowing a limited number of Mexican trucks on American highways. Mexico obtained a judicial ruling in 2001 under the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) allowing it to impose such sanctions, but has held off since the US introduced the pilot scheme.

The sanctions, which Mexican officials say are set to be imposed later this week, will be one of the largest acts of retaliation against US exports. US goods exports to Mexico totalled $151.5bn last year. On Monday, Gerardo Ruíz Mateos, Mexico’s economy minister, said: “We believe that the action taken by the US is wrong, protectionist and in clear violation of Nafta.”

The White House said on Monday it would seek to create a new programme that would address what it called the “legitimate concerns of Congress” while meeting the US’s Nafta commitments. But Mexican officials said they would not be bought off with promises.

The pilot programme has been opposed by many lawmakers and by the Teamsters Union, which says that Mexican trucks are unsafe. Because they are largely restricted to short-run hops over the border, most Mexican trucks entering the US are run by so-called “drayage” operations that use older vehicles more likely to fail inspection tests. But a study funded by the US Department of Transportation found that when comparing like with like, Mexican trucks were often safer than their US counterparts.

“The Mexicans have been extraordinarily patient on this,” said Edward Alden, senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. “The pilot project was enough to give them glimmerings of hope for a long time.”

Does anybody ever wonder if Obama wants his own policies to fail??

Hard to keep track isn't it :sad2: everyday brings something new

Thanks to all for the prayers and well wishes. Sorry I'm not posting much about politics. Just don't feel like thinking about it ATM with everything else going on.

I was wondering what had happened to you! Glad you're feeling better....

Prayers to your mom...

And no D23 for me - I'm thinking of buying the magazine - do you like it?

Thanks Debbie. As for the magazine... I love it! I still haven't finished it. The only parts I'd chuck would be the 2 page current event spread (including inauguration pictures... why must a Disney magazine drag that back into my mind? I'd say the same if Reagan himself was featured in it) and the one time article on the Castle Suite and Disneyland Suite (how many times have we heard about them now? Sheesh). Neat article about the archives with neat pictures, interesting article about Burton's version of Alice that comes out next year, neat article on the Leibowitz portraits, and a great piece on the California Grill's head chef (who was recently promoted to exec. chef at Epcot). That's just what I've read so far.

To read some of the threads on D23 though, you'd think people gathered up all of their righteous indignation over pool hopping, refillable mugs, and other typical DIS topics of argument, the way some people are carrying on. Some of the threads are making the political threads look tame! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No, it's not cheap. However, it is in line value-wise compared to WDCC (of which I'm a member). It is very similar to WDCC. As long as the collectible is a good one, the cost is right when compared to WDCC. An interesting rabid hatred for it being more collector and history oriented than discount oriented has definitely cropped up here among some people. I guess I just don't get why so many people are so upset that it's not a loyalty program for the theme parks. It wasn't marketed as a group for theme park fans, but for fans of the overall company. I've been royally po'd at Disney before (when they closed VMK, for example) and not afraid to say it, but I see nothing wrong with the program at this time, again, as long as the collectible is a good one.

Me, I've got a double target on my back-- my favorite things about Disney are the history and the collectibles! :rotfl: I think I ruffled more feathers in defending it than I ever have in a political thread. :rotfl:

Ratings are in for Glenn's Friday show.

He got beat by O'Reilly overall but did beat him in the target demographic:

He also announced that FoxNews will repeat his show at 2:00am (11:00 pm west cost).

Did I hear correctly that Obama is going to be on Leno this week?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/03/16/obama-heading-los-angeles-leno-appearance/

President Obama is heading back to the late-night circuit, with an appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" set for this week.

The president is flying out Wednesday to Los Angeles where he is expected to join up with Leno, though it's unclear whether his appearance will be live or pre-taped.

Obama and GOP rival John McCain were frequent talk-show and late-night guests during the presidential campaign last year.

Though the president is taking time this week for a little levity, he's now in the midst of a new campaign to convince Congress and American taxpayers to support his $3.6 trillion proposed budget for the next fiscal year.
