I don't need a letter from my husband to fly with our son do I? It's just domestic- Buffalo to MCO. I know it's needed for international flights. Is it really needed for domestic?

No. We've never needed anything to fly solo with our kids. Just the birth certificate if you have a lap child.

Is this also true for grandparents flying with grandchild without the parents?

If you do not have the same last name, I would suggest bringing the child's birth certificate. A friend of mine just got asked for it when she was flying to Va to Ca with her 3 year old. Luckily she had it and a letter from her husband.

Dh and I have flown with our twin 2 year old grandsons multiple times (together and seperately) and have never had to have documentation.

I've flown with both my grand daughter and grandson and have never been asked for documentation. I do get a notarized letter from both their parents though, stating that I can travel out of state with them and obtain any medical care they might neet, (but it's mainly in case they might need medical care). I also travel with their insurance cards.

My son is divorced from my grand daughter's mother, so I do get a notarized letter from both parents stating that I can travel with her, the dates we are traveling, where we are going, and that I can sign for any medical care that she might need. I get along great with my ex D-I-L, but she and my current D-I-L do not, so I always want to have the letter from her, just in case she and my current D-I-L get into it while I'm gone and one of them wants to start trouble.:rotfl: They have been known to use my GD in the past in their battles. I've never had to show the letters to anyone though. I just like having them.

We have never needed that when flying, but if you are traveling with children who are not your own, it is a good idea to have the parents write up a Power of Attorney for you to use in the event of a medical emergency. It isn't a necessity and hopefully would never be needed, but it is a good idea just in case.

I always travel with a Power of Attorney to be safe. My girls have a different last name and I just don't want to have to worry about it.

I flew Delta with my ds (age 10 mths at the time) and they didn't ask me for anything, not even a birth certificate.

I've flown internationally with my son many times without my husband, and never needed anything in writing from him - so I am sure domestic should be just fine ! :)

I have only needed documentation from my husband when travelling internationally without him (it was a cruise ship not a plane), but never domestically.
