Here’s a hint that may be helpful, posted as a spoiler:

Sometimes the commonality of the purple group has to do with the structure of the words, rather than their meanings.

I’m sure others have noticed this, and it’s something I now look for when I’m stuck, that I didn’t consider when I started playing the game.
