That’s true, they make it tricky. The grouping with one of each color (teapot) is a valid answer, but you wouldn’t be able to complete the other connections. It’s best to have at least two of the categories figured out before guessing.

I agree! Sometimes there are subtle hints when it's a trick, such as a difference in spelling but I didn't see one this time.
