Connecting through Newark - Continental

Totally stressed. I am also flying Moncton - Newark - Orlando on Continental (end of April). We've never been to Disney and never traveled internationally with our daughter (4 years old). Our flight departs at the obscene hour of 6:00 am. In the past when I had an early flight and arrived early, security hadn't even opened and the ticket counter didn't open until 4:30 anyway. I don't know if things have changed in the last couple years, but I not want to get to the airport 3 hours early and then not be able to do anything for 1.5 hours anyway.

1 ) On Canadian carriers,I get 2 free bags per ticket. It appears I'll be paying, in US dollars for every bag I take (that is how I'm interpreting their baggage page). I'm not so sure my inlaws got the best deal on flights considering Westjet and Air Canada wouldn't have charged. If I check my carseat, I assume I'll be charged *something* for that as well?

2) I have a massive carseat (Britax roundabout bought in Canada). In the past, we have used an attachment that straps the car seat to a rolling carryon so that we could easily transport it (and child) through the airports. Current guidelines seem to indicate I'm not going to be allowed to bring the carrying, which will make transporting this thing quickly through Newark practically impossible. We only have 1 hr and 28 min to go through customs and connect. So, I would be willing to skip taking it on board potentially if I knew what,if anything, I will be charged to check it. I've had no luck reaching a person so far to get a straight answer.

Please oh please let the carry-on restrictions go back to pre Dec 25 levels by then. I cannot imagine how I'm going to keep a child that has been up since at least 3am occupied through all the waiting and flying without a carry-on bag full of tricks.

At this point I'm so stressed I'm not even sure I want to go.

As previously posted, you don't have to stress over the carry-on restrictions, those were lifted a week or so ago. You can click the link below for updates on carry-on:

Thank you all so much. I am so relieved that (currently) the carry-on ban is lifted - that will make the trip *so* much easier. Thank you all for the links.

I'm excited (and a bit overwhelmed) about our first trip to Disney World, but I'm an anxious traveler to begin with and thinking about new restrictions AND taking our sleep deprived four year old was exhausting.

I guess my next trick will be to see how little I can pack ;)

If you know your dates, I'd advise you to go on-line and start making your advance dining reservations asap - the popular restaurants can book up pretty quickly !

I've flown extensively for work, many times through Newark. Of all my times in and out of Newark, I don't think my flight was ever on time. It's notorious for delays due to weather, air traffic control backlogs, over-busy runways, etc. etc. My only advice is to make sure you have plenty of time to make your connection.

Ack! Now I'm worried. I only have 1 hour 28 minutes to connect and get through customs. The non-refundable tickets were purchased by family members - I had no say. At least we're not flying in the winter for snow shouldn't be an issue (no accounting for other storms, of course).

We are flying out of Moncton on Continental, with a connection in Newark. This will be our first time flying to Orlando from Canada. We always drive to Bangor and fly from there. I am really nervous about it!!! :headache: Finding baggage claim, clearing customs and finding our connecting flight.
I have never used Continental before but my friends flew out of Halifax with them last year and really had a huge problem. When they got to the airport they were told that there weren't any seats for them. They overbooked!!! I'm not sure of all the details, my memory isn't the best but I know it was a big problem. On a positive note Continental did give them all free flights for this year. Anyone else have this happen to them flying with Continental? The stress of trying to get to Disney!!!

I think I have the same friends - LOL! I will let you know if we have any problems. We will be leaving 5 days before you guys, so we can give you the heads up for any problems.:teacher:

just so people know ... the fares for moncton to newark to orlando, where the same as halifax to newark to orlando ... they were some of the best fares from the Maritimes I have seen in years. They have gone up since.

you should be fine. in september we landed in a with the two kids, were almost last off, had to get off, i needed to pee, then get to the shuttle, take it then walked forever through c to find out gate. we found it, got the kids changed and boom the plane was loading. we had about an hr and a half as well. this trip much longer- which means momma gets to shop!
