What are the chances of not getting connecting rooms if the request is made with your reservation?

I am trying to help a friend decide on a resort for her first trip. Connecting rooms is a MUST, so I am not sure what would happen if they got there and they said none were available. She understandably is concerned about this. So I thought I would ask the experts! ;)

Does your friend have children as part of the group? Have read on these boards that if small children are part of the connecting room group there is a better chance...also, have you considered recommending the Family Suites at All Star Music? These basically are the equivalent of two rooms and there are two full baths and a kitchenette with fridge, microwave, sink, coffeemaker and storage. Our group all loved the family suites as you could get up and have breakfast in the room while getting ready. Also, the suites are very conveniently located in the Preferred buildings so much closer to the bus stop and lobby.

We requested connecting rooms and got them. We did have to wait longer from when we checked in so that the rooms would be ready but they gave us 2 rooms to use till they were ready then moved our stuff for us while we were at the parks.

Here is a link to a diagram showing where the connecting rooms are located at Pop Century: http://disneyworldlinks.com/tools/PopCenturyRoomLayoutLarge.jpg

Unless she is the only adult traveling with children, WDW will not guaranty connecting rooms. That being said, they seem to do their best to accommodate people. If connecting rooms are her main concern, that should be her only special room request. Don't ask for ground floor, building 5, overlooking the pool, etc. Just ask for connecting rooms. One time when we were at POFQ, my sister's family wanted connecting rooms to her in-laws' room because her FIL needed BIL's help in getting ready in the morning. POFQ couldn't accommodate them for the first night, but moved them for the remainder of the stay. They actually preferred the location to which they were moved.

I was traveling with friends last year to POR. We made connecting rooms our only request and told the CM we would wait as long as necessary to get them.

Now the resort wasn't very busy that week, so we lucked out.

There is never a guarantee for requests.

I was told by CMs that connecting rooms are guaranteed with small children - even with 2 adults. We have been to Pop many, MANY times and have NEVER not gotten connecting rooms.

CM's are not the most reliable sources of information. We have had a few threads started on this subject. 50% of the people were told they could with small children; 50% of the people with small children were told they were not guaranteed connecting rooms.

Bottom line, if you read the fine print, all Disney owes you is two rooms somewhere on property. If it is lower than your booking category, they will refund the difference (been there, done that).

They are traveling with 4 adults and 2 small children. They want to do connecting rooms rather than a family suite so they have a separate room for her parents and so they have somewhere they can go while LOs are sleeping so they don't disturb them (in the other room with the connecting door cracked).

Thanks for the responses!

That would definately be a request. You are talking about two adults in one room and two adults and two kids in another. The connecting rooms become a matter of convenience, but not a necessity.

What people are referring to with small children is say two adults with a family of six children. You book two rooms; one room with one adult and three children and the other room with one adult and three children. Then they stand a better chance of getting connecting rooms.

If your friend wants to be sure her family ends up all together in one space, they have to book a villa or suite that will hold them all. Otherwise there is no guarantee of getting connecting rooms. Especially when the adults outnumber the children. People who truly need connecting rooms (1 adult with 5 children, for example) will get them first.

I agree with the previous post because the adults out number the kids there is no guarantees. We just booked POP for the summer and because we have 4 kids and 2 adults it is put right on our reservation Connecting rooms (guaranteed) since we have more kids. We may be bringing my MIL but were told not to add her until we have confirmed she can come because they would not guarantee the rooms with her added to the reservation. So to get it that guarantee we have just booked the 6 of us for now and will add her later if she agrees to come.

When you request connecting rooms for 2 adults and 2 kids do you a king bed in one room and doubles in the other?

I'm not sure what you are asking (I think a word was left out of your sentence). However, there are King rooms that connect to 2 Double bed rooms and 2 doubles that connect to 2 doubles. There are no King-King connections.

The occupancy for the king bed rooms is two plus a child under the age of 3.

So if one adult and one child were booked in the room, it is possible to get a king bed based on the occupancy rules. I have been in king bed rooms in POR, that were connecting with a room with two beds.

However, I am not sure if they would give you a king bed unless you booked it (mods it is a booking category), because since it is an adult and a child. I would suspect they would give you two beds.

We were booked this past year; myself and one child in one room. The four adults and other child were in the second room. We booked for the specific reason we wanted to be in the mansions at POR.

We did receive connecting rooms (but that was all we requested) and booked a standard view. My room, with the six year old, had two beds. I did not make any request; I would think it would be assumed the child would want their own bed.
