Connecting Rooms at Disneyland hotels

We want to book connecting rooms at one of the DLR hotels and I am just floored that you cannot guarantee them. We are a family of 4.

I was wondering how likely it is that we will end up in two non-connecting rooms and if there is one hotel that might be a better shot than others at getting connecting rooms.

The inability to specifically book connecting rooms or bed types is certainly a shortcoming with DLR hotels. Booking a suite is the only way to guarantee connecting rooms.

Checking in early would improve your chances for connecting rooms. Early Sunday would be optimal, since often half the rooms "turn over".

Whenever we have asked for connecting rooms (and even when we've only asked to have rooms "near each other"), we've gotten our request. They want you to be happy. They don't want to split up a family. I would call the hotel directly (NOT the main reservation line...but the actual front desk of the hotel) the day before arrival, and talk to them about your concern. At that point, they will most likely have your rooms assigned, and while they *still* won't guarantee you anything, they sometimes can say "I've looked at the rooms, and I think you'll be very happy"...or something to that effect.

This is really good advice---make that call the day before, even the morning of(early), and you might be surprised at what they can/will do for you!

When we've checked in before, I cannot tell you the number of times we've been assigned a room with a connecting door(at all three Disney Property Hotels)!

We have always asked to have that changed(not a fan of connecting rooms), which they have done immediately, and efficiently.

It never hurts to ask---just don't expect!:thumbsup2

The chance of not getting connecting rooms is one thing that discourages us from staying onsite. We did when we had 2 kids, but now that we have 4 we require 2 rooms. The idea of me being in one room with 2 kids while DH is in another room with 2 kids would certainly take the magic out of staying onsite. I really hope they do their best to accommodate. Good luck to you!

Not a very good sampling, but we have stayed at the DLH and GCL a total of three times when traveling with friends and have received connecting rooms as requested each time. These trips were during times where DLR crowds were rated 6 to 8. I like the idea of calling the day before arrival. I would hope that they would give some preference to a family traveling together.

We have found it is usually cheaper to get a 1 bedroom suite than it is to get 2 rooms.

I've never not gotten a connecting room when asked for.

Both of those comments are interesting. May I ask which hotel(s) you stayed in with the above results?

The reason I ask is that we are big fans of getting suites instead of 2 rooms, and we almost always go this route when we travel. However, every time I have asked about a suite at either DLH or GCH, it has been WAY more expensive than getting 2 rooms.

We have stayed at GCH 6 times and DLH once...and always got connecting rooms. Guess we were lucky!

If it's for a minor or minors being in a room, they'll make it happen every time.... They can't have kids by themselves;)

We have a family of 8, DH, me and 6 DDs all under age. When I made reservations at the Grand they made me put one adult in each room and was told joint rooms were not guaranteed.

It's the same for the HOJO and last time we went we didn't get joining rooms. It was a pain going back and forth but at least we were next door.

So what was the outcome? Did you get the adjoining rooms or not?

We stay at the DLH. Tomorrow I will give you the breakdown of prices, as it is in my work email.

I priced a suite at PPH in July vs two rooms and two rooms were cheaper. The suite was a one bedroom. The two bedroom wasn't much more than the one bedroom but two regular rooms were still cheaper. Maybe it depends on time of year?

For an upcoming trip (July 1-6) the rates I was quoted:

2-queen room (std view) $379
1 bedroom suite- $690
2 bedroom - $897
3 bedroom - $1075

We ended up going with the 3 bedroom as that was cheaper than 3 rooms.

Can anyone guide me to information on the suites? For example, why would a 1 bedroom suite be preferable to 2 connecting rooms? My understanding is that a 1 bedroom suite has 2 queens and a pullout, with 1.5 baths, while 2 rooms has 4 queens and 2 baths. When I've priced them out, it was about the same for a suite as 2 regular rooms.

We do it for space. Or we have nieces (kids) with us. Usually, we go for a 2 bedroom suite.

But this wasn't at DLR, was it? Suites are quite a bit more than two rooms would be.

A two bedroom will give you three rooms. One bedroom with two queen beds and one with a king or 2 queen beds. Both of those rooms will have a full bathroom. The living room area has a pull out couch and a half bath.
A one bedroom suite won't have the second bedroom.
