We are going to Disney in September with my inlaws and staying at POR. We'll have two rooms. Originally we were going the same dates and requested connecting rooms.

Now my family is going on a Saturday and my in laws are arriving four days later on Wednesday. Is it possible for our request to still be granted? If we can't have connecting rooms, I would at least like them to be by us. How do we communicate this request to Disney?

Yes, you can still request connecting rooms. Here's my story.

We arrived December 23rd. My in-laws arrived December 27th. When I made the reservation, I requested connecting rooms or adjoining rooms if connecting was not possible. This was during the Christmas/New Years week after all and we weren't arriving on the same day.

We arrived and had our room. On the day my in-laws arrived, I went down to the front desk to check them in (they would be overwhelmed by the Disney process). I was given their room key and the number of the room. It was right next to us but I didn't know which side. It was the connecting room.

I never mentioned the connecting room at all when I checked in. I'm still amazed that Disney was able to do that during one of their busiest weeks of the year.

Call Disney and have both reservation numbers with you. Then just say that you still want connecting room if possible but adjoining rooms would be fine if connecting isn't available. You might want to mention it again when you check in.

Disney will try their best. And you can still request it.

The resort probably was not at capacity. Because if there is a few days lap between your check-in and the other parties they are not going to leave a room empty if someone is willing to pay for it. I think you got very lucky!

Not during Christmas time. They were booked. I had requested Broadway but was given Jazz instead. So it's possible that because of the connecting room request, they honored that and not the building request. And the room wasn't empty for the time we were there alone. That's why it still amazes me.
