Hi all. We'll be on the 2/19/05 Magic and we're on a waitlist for a cat 3. However we are BOOKED for 2 connecting cat 6 cabins. I was wondering if anyone out there has done this? We are 4---DH and I will be in one cabin and DS 15 and DD 7 in the other cabin. We plan on keeping the door open (duct tape!) but I wanted to know others experiences with this. Pics would be awesome!!

Thanks

Ursula

We had 2 connecting Cat 8's booked for our 5-1 Eastern for our family of 5 and then got upgraded to 2 connecting cat 4's for the cruise and it was AWESOME!!! The extra space was so nice and the fact that we could close our door and leave the kids in their room was really nice. Also no duct tape was needed in our rooms because they had some wooden door stops that they had in the doors that we just moved out of the way when we wanted to shut the door. It was almost as nice as having a Cat 3 except for the concierge service but the cost wasn't as high as a Cat 3 either. I think you would be glad you got the 2 connecting rooms. I don't have any really great pics of the connecting rooms but they were nice anyway.

Thanks, Heidi. I am still hoping for that cat 3!. You see, last Feburary, on our Magic cruise, DH and I promised to quit smoking. Well, I have been able to quit that horrible habit, but my DH is still hooked. Anyway, this cruise was supposed to be our reward for stopping and DH wanted me to have a cat 3! Dear man!

Oh well! Talk about luxury problems!! LOL

I appreciate you resonding. How did it go with closing the door between you and the kids?

Dreamer---I totally understand why you'd want the Cat 3 and that is awesome that you were able to quit..congrats to you on that HUGE accomplishment! You may get a Cat 3...you never know but honestly if you don't the 2 connecting rooms are really nice and not too many square feet less than the Cat 3 (I think that the cat 6's work out to only 78 total square feet less than the cat 3) so it isn't too bad although I'd want a cat 3 as well LOL! When we shut the kids door to our room and they were in there watching tv we could hardly hear them and vice versa. Our kids are younger than yours at ages 10, 9 and 5 but it was nice they could watch what they wanted to watch and we could watch what we wanted to watch. I honestly hope you get the Cat 3 but if not the 2 connecting rooms will be ALMOST as nice.

Have a great trip no matter what!

We were in 6066 and 6044 this past January and it was fantastic!

We had planned on having DD(11), DD(7) and DS(4) stay in one cabin with my mom!! But that didn't happen. My DD(7) really liked having her own bed on our couch.

The space was plenty and we loved having both balconies. We liked having the ability to close the doors occasionally;) so we used one of our lanyards looped from the door handle to the drawer of the small dresser. This was easy to keep them open or close them when we wanted!!

We had a group of 6 so with your family of 4 there would be plenty of room!!

Have a great trip!

It does sound good! How about the KTTW cards? Could they program them to open both doors? How did you handle this?

We as the adults got 2 kttw cards..1 for each room. The kids didn't have access to their kttw cards anyway so it wasn't a huge deal.

It was the only way to travel with 3 kids...lots of places for their junk and 2 bathrooms!

My kids just knew which door their KTTW opened. We usually had the doors between the rooms propped open so it really didn't matter.

I'm sooooo jealous:teeth:

I have a question....
We have two connecting Cat 5's for the our next two cruises.
We had to book it with myself & DD in one room, DH & DS in the other, but of course, it will be the 2 kids in one room, us in the other.
Now, the KTTW cards are also our charge cards, our I.D. cards (for going ashore, checking off & on the ship).
So....how can I let the kids have the keys to their own room, when one would be mine & one DH's?? They are 11 and 14, so they come and go as they please pretty much. So what can I do?

I see what you mean. The only thing I can think of is this: If the door between the two rooms is open, it doesn't matter which KTTW cards are used as keys.

But, I wonder if they can program all the cards to open both doors? It is possible, technically, but do they? Anybody know?

Here's a question--what about privacy? Last year on our 4 day Wonder (we had a cat. 4) DH and I got a lot of private time between show time or dinner and when we got the kids late at their clubs. This time we are planning on doing the same thing, but if we leave the door propped open--well keep in mind my MOM AND DAD are in the next room so there goes private time. Do you think a shut connecting door is enough of a subtle hint?;)

We tried to get them to do this a few weeks ago (we had connecting Cat. 6 rooms) and they couldn't do it. What they did do was make a "dummy" key for each room. It was just a blank KTTW card that could only open the other door (no charging privileges). After the first day, we stopped using them because it just became one more thing to have to carry around...and I was having enough trouble just remembering to take my KTTW card with me all the time. So, we just left the door open between the two rooms and I would enter through my kids room to get to mine. It really wasn't a problem...especially since I seemed to be lost on the ship the majority of the time and never seemed to figure out what side of the ship I was on. Half of the time, when we would enter our rooms, I would think that we were entering my room when we were actually entering the kids. I just never seemed to get my bearings onboard...I felt like such and idiot! I was always turning left when I would get off of an elevator and everyone would have to tell me that we needed to go right to get to the room!

By the way, I think you will love having two Cat. 6 rooms. It was wonderful having two bathrooms, two tvs, two verandahs, etc. My girls are ages 16 & 19, so sharing a bathroom just wasn't an option...I had visions of us never making it to dinner in time if we had to share a bathroom with them!

We each had our own KTTW cards which were arranged with me and dd in 1 room and dh and 2 ds's in the other room. So my kttw card and dd's kttw card were programed for room 8504. Dh and my 2 sons kttw cards were programmed for room 8506. We went to guest services and asked for me and dd to get "dummy keys" for room 8506 with NO charging ability on them and for dh and 2 ds's to get "dummy keys" for 8504. Then we left the door open between the 2 rooms so matter which room you went into the door was open between them. I then gave the kids the "dummy key" cards to use to get into and out of their room and I kept their real keys in the safe so that we could get on and off the ship. I would imagine you could get Guest Services to do whatever you would like key wise for your 2 rooms and that way the older kids could get into their room easily without interrupting you and vice versa. Also when we wanted "mom and dad time" we would close their door slightly and close ours all the way which meant they couldn't open the door from their side but told them if it was shut to just knock (just like at home) and they did really well.

Hope this makes sense
Heidi

Thanks for the info...and thanks for understanding about the "private time"!

Hey, what are you doing over here? Ha, ha, just kidding. Just thought I'd let you know that I'm keeping an eye out for ALL your posts. (And, by the by, we have 2 connecting 6's for the Christmas cruise. Is it too much to ask that I hope we get upgraded to 4's?!!!!!)
