Ok so last time we went DD just used stroller and we didnt have her diagnoses of Mitochondrial Disorder. This time she will be in a wheelchair and can transfer but wears out really easy. Am I correct that we wont need a GAC cause she is already in a wheelchair? Can I just tell them that she can transfer if needed?

Also she has temperature problems and will be in cooling vest. Can I leave the inserts at First aid to stay cold in order to be able to change out easily or should I just hang a cooler from her wheelchair? (we will be going in sept/oct)

One last question...How accessable are restraunts? I dont remember since I wasnt paying attention last time.

Thank you!

Correct that you should not need a GAC unless there is a need beyond just taking the wheelchair in line. If it is a child's wheelchair that could be confused with a stroller (some of the Convaid cruisers and similar might be confused by those not familiar with them) - you might want to stop at Guest Relations and get a stroller-as-wheelchair tag to make it clear. And absolutely they'd prefer she transfer if able, and it will save you waiting for one of the few accessible ride cars.

You should be able to keep the cooling vest inserts at First Aid. Hopefully someone else will chime in and confirm that. I also can't speak for accessibility in restaurants as we typically park and walk in.

Enjoy your vacation!

Not sure if my answer applies to WDW because we are in CA and have only been to DL. My 10 y/o DD has Ehlers Danlos Disease and also tires easily. Because of her stamina issues she uses a wheelchair when were at DL because of the extensive walking and standing in lines. I get a GAC for her even though they will tell me that it's not necessary because she's in the wheelchair since she isn't in the chair all the time and will walk for parts of the day. Standing in a long line though would be physically uncomfortable for her. With the GAC we've got our bases covered.

GL, enjoy your vacation :)

Post 6 the doisAbilities faqS thread is about Guest assistance Cards(GACs). You cabn find that thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature.

All lines at WDW are wheelchair accessible to the point of boarding and all shows are whelchair accessible. This is different than Disnyland, which is ledger and has more inaccessible lines.

There is a a First Aid in each park and they will be able to hold equipment for you.

First aid will be more than happy to keep the inserts just be sure to remember to pick them up before you leave the park. Also, should you chose to bring a cooler and carry them yourself, the park will only allow a soft sided cooler to be brought in ( unless something has changed). Just wanted to make sure you knew.

My daughter has complex 1 mitochondrial and we have requested the stamp that says shaded waiting area where available. That has helped with some of the temperature issues. We also used a cooler to help keep fluids readily available and keep her cocktail in.
