I had heard how fun Whispering Canyon for dinner was for the kids, so I booked us dinner one of our nights at Magic Kingdom. We have an 8am breakfast for that morning at Crystal Palace and have a ressie at Whispering Canyon at 5pm. After dinner we were going to have an early night and go back to the hotel and hang out at the pool. We are on the dining plan and have 7 table services, but have 8 booked, so we will have to pay for one of our meals out of pocket. My cousin and her family just went and her and her husband said the food is not worth leaving Magic Kingdom for and having to pay out of pocket??? So now I don't know whether to keep the ressie or cancel it and do a counter service or order pizza at the pool at our hotel.

I personally would go to Whispering Canyon. My kids LOVE it!! In fact we have always gone purchasing the Dining Plan and are thinking of not doing it next time because we wanted to go once without being tied town to reservations. The only exception DH said was that we would need to make ressies for Whispering Canyon and just pay for it.

I guess the only way to know would be to try it for yourself and I know so many people love it, but personally, I will not be going back to Whispering Canyon. I had read alot about it and was expecting a really fun time, but I thought it was kind of obnoxious actually. Now, I have 3 sons and loud chaos is our norm, so it takes alot for me to say that! I thought the food was just okay, though DH enjoyed the skillet - I think he really liked the amount of food. We have tried many Disney restaurants over the years and usually leave very impressed with both food and atmosphere, but not from WCC. We were on the dining plan and I would have been even more disappointed if I had to pay out of pocket.

I think you need to be in the mood for it. My sister chose it for her son's birthday, so we were stuck with I meal I would have avoided - and even though that sort of thing is normally too much for me, that night we had a great time. The food was better than I expected as well - not any better or worse than most Disney meals we had that week (and way better than our Le Cellier meal with my husband's inedible steak).

We went and enjoyed it. Although DD was 2 1/2 at the time and she was a bit overwhelmed and wouldn't eat. It had been a long day too, so that might
have been it.
Anyway, this was one of the more expensive meals for us, luckily we were on the DDP. If you decide to go and pay OOP for a meal, check menu prices online first and decide which meal is better to pay OOP. That way you get more bang for your DDP.
Have fun!! popcorn::

We went 2 years ago & loved it. Then we tried it again this past January and it was terrible (service & experience-wise). So.. it really depends on so many things- the current menu, your server, etc.

For the skillet do they still offer the shrimp or did they do away with that?? I hope not as that is the one reason we are returning there in Sept:goodvibes

We have been twice. We love looking around Wilderness Lodge to walk off the big meal when we are done. The first time we were on the DDP. We all Me, DH, DS12 and DS8 loved the skillet. We did not have a good server although we did see good servers having fun with their diners. Our waiter was in training. So we tried it again the next year and paid out of pocket because we LOVED the food that much. Still the server was better and threw straws at us but that was it. But the food was sooooo good we will go back. My family LOVES the ribs. Hope that helps.

We have only been for breakfast and both times we had a really good time and would go back. Have a great trip!

We went and had a blast:thumbsup2 !The all you can drink milkshakes:woohoo:. the waitress throwing the straws on the table ,my little nephew asking for ketchup and his eyes looking like saucers when he got every bottle in the place:rotfl2:.The food was great ,everyone had a great time.it all depends on what you are looking for if you can handle it being fun :dance3:go for it .Don't like attention stay away ,but if you have kids they will love it:yay:>

No Shrimp :upsidedow

We got chicken, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, corn on the cob and mashed potatoes. We also got some of the best corn bread ever. :thumbsup2

We absolutely loved WCC when we went last August.... It was our favorite meal! My daughter puts ketchup on EVERYTHING and got a big kick out of the shtick! It was loud, rowdy and I laughed my butt off! The waitress was great and kept all of our refills(food and drink) coming....Actually she announced that Mom had a "drinking problem" after my 3rd milkshake:rolleyes: I don't think the kids got that; but my DH was rolling....
We will definatly go again....in 3 years.....

Brisket? What is that?

A cut of beef - it isn't a great cut of beef (i.e. you can usually buy it cheap, its usually pretty fatty), but it works really well braised or BBQ. Corned beef is make from brisket.

We love WCC and would recommend it. The food was good and we thought the antics were really funny. :lmao:We did see people who would not participate which we found to be a bit odd. If I didn't want the interaction I wouldn't go or maybe they just didn't "get it"???

Our family had a good time there!

Our trip this year, (week ago),we went to WC for dinner our first full night and it was just as yummy as we remember. But do know, that 5 ressie is when they open so they won't be very full and sometimes the time can lag. We did that first ressie slot and didn't get the whole experience. There wasn't ketchup on tables already and when someone yelled for it, it wasn't as big a deal as I remember from last time. My advice would be move it back an hour or so to get the full experience.

The food was really yummy. Daughter and niece got milkshakes. But we did have to pay for one. Was told that we could only get one per table. So I don't know if they made a mistake or what. Of course, we were all too full for dessert so they boxed it up and we took it back to the room. Yum!! The skillet was very yummy. The pulled pork was to die for and the ribs were falling off the bone. UGH. Making myself hungry just thinking about it.

Since you have to pay OP I would think twice. We only do one TS a day & with CP being a buffet you that could be alot of food in one day. We love WCC & have had good food & great fun there. If you are want to leave the park & come back maybe try a FC at one the monorail resorts.
