Confused with transferring points..

I am taking a big family vacation next Feb (2016). I have an April use year so I will get all my points this upcoming April. With all that being said, I will be about 20 points short for a two bedroom room that I need. If I pay someone for their points and have them transferred to my account, do I need to make sure they own at BCV too? I want to book BCV as soon as I get my points in April. Or can they own at any resort? How much is it normally for transferring points?

Transferred points maintain their use year so in order for you to use them along with your BCV points at sometime before the 7 month mark, they will need to be BCV points.

Your trip is in Feb 2016. Do you have any points from your April 2014 UY? Have they been banked? Otherwise, you have April 2015 points, plus you could borrow April 2016 points for your Feb 2016 reservation.

And, you do not need to wait until April to book. Your points are already in the account. The start of your UY simple changes the status of the points from next UY,points to current UY points

All reservations can be booked 11 months in advance as everything is based on when you travel not when you call.

In terms of transfer points. If you want to use the, during the home resort period, they need to be the same resort you own. If you want to use the, online, then they also have to be the same UY and resort you own. If it is a different UY, you will have to call ME to use.

But as mentioned, you can use any banked 2014, 2015 and borrowed 2016 points to book using your own points.

Keep in mind you can always buy one time points from member services if you are going to need to borrow points or are short of points.

It's $15 a point with a maximum of 24 or 25 points. I think 25. So if you only need a little this is a hassle free way to do it without much additional expense.

You can only buy one time points at the 7 month mark, not the 11 month mark.

You do not need to wait for your points, they are there. If your trip is in Feb of 2016, you can book it March of 2015. You do not need to wait until April.

Just a suggestion: make sure your family members are 100% committed to this trip. There have been lots of stories posted here about large family trips where some family members dropped out at the last minute, leaving the member scrambling to try to book a smaller room to get back some of their points. In your case the trip occurs after your banking deadline so even if you could downsize, any points returned to your account would expire on March 31st.
