Between to ranges - one bigger, one a bit smaller - both have good ratings

GE - 5.3 Cu. Ft. Freestanding Electric Range with Self-cleaning - Stainless steel

Model:JB645RKSS - rated 4.6
The above is less expensive ($799.99) than the

Maytag - 6.4 Cu. Ft. Self-Cleaning Freestanding Fingerprint Resistant Electric Convection Range - Stainless steel

Model:MER8800FZ - but only rated 4.4 cost = $999.99

Both at Best Buy - we can get free delivery and free get rid of the old range.
If we open a Best Buy credit card - we can pay over 18 months with no interest - great deal,, if we pay $100 a month it will be paid off in 10 months or less.

Which free standing range should we buy ?
Please advice

Here, I put them in compare list on Best Buy for you:

The biggest differences I see is that the Maytag is space, convection, and fingerprint resistance stainless. Is that worth the extra $200 to you? It is all personal choice. I also see that the Maytag has a warming zone (extra looking burner on top) which I do have and use.

If you are an avid cook and will use these added features, the $200 could be very well worth it.

I hope whatever you decide you are happy with it! :-)

i love having convection as an option on my oven.

I can’t really give you advice between these two stoves, but I will say that I have a Maytag electric stove that is now 22 1/2 years old and I have never had one problem with it. We installed it when we built our home and it has literally lasted forever. We also eat 98% of our meals at home and I love to cook, so over the years it has seen a lot of use.

Good luck with whatever one you choose!😊

Ratings tend to be arbitrary and isn't something I would use to decide. Not clear how you have managed to narrow down to these two since most home improvement stores offer several choices. Which one has the main features that matter the most to you? What are the dimensions of each and will they fit in the existing space you have? In some older homes, newer ranges might be larger then the available space and involve costly kitchen modifications.

If you have never used a convection oven (or don't currently have one), need to consider if that feature is worth the added cost. Convection tends to cook certain things faster but isn't appropriate for everything. If you do a lot of baking, you will need to experiment with your recipes to see how they need to be adjusted. You can't just deduct 25 degrees from every recipe and the bake time may be different.

I had a gas GE Profile that I had nothing but issues with. The oven never kept the temperature and they told me it could fluctuate by 25 degrees. They finally agreed to buy it back. I now have a Whirlpool, which keeps the temperature.

What matters is your budget and if you are trying to match other existing appliances. That is where I would start with any of these types of applicance questions. We have GE electric appliances and never had any issues. Appliances all come with a wide range of features, so you need to look for the ones that match your needs/budget and intended use.

It can be pricey switching to an appliance that differs from what you currently have (gas vs. electric) so I would also consider what your current appliances are.

If you bake or make frozen foods like chicken strips, tater tots, etc. I would go the one with the convection.

Get the one with the LEAST fancy computer controlled nonsense….

You will thank me when it breaks (and they will, they only have like 5 year lifespans now)

Home appliances are considered throw away, and they are not well built like even just 10 years ago.

For sure, I can't see any reason to have applicances on the internet. Who really wants to surf the net on their refrigerator or needs the oven to text me when the food is done? I think they also make washing machines with internet connections as well...........LOL. I never run the washing machine if not at home so I really don't need a text when the cycle is done. Good luck trying to do software updates or get any kind of technical help when things go wrong.

I would imagine the typical repairman will tell you the internet stuff isn't their problem and will have NO idea how to fix it. The IT people at most companies seem to be offshore someplace with limited grasp of English. Mostly they read from a script of common questions and have no specific knowledge of these appliances. Rather problem solve on my own by searching the net then waste an hour on the phone with someone who has probably never even seen the devices they are supporting. See ZERO need for that type of technology on any household appliance.

Thank you
I am leaning towards the Maytag too
Our dishwasher and refrigerator are Maytag
Might as well complete the kitchen collection

DH wanted a double oven too :groom:
I said if we get a double oven - then I need a new kitchen cabinet to hold the pans I have in the oven drawer.
The double oven does not have a bottom drawer to store pans.

A factor is switching to a double oven is the layout of your current appliances. If you don't currently have one, there may not be room for a double oven without doing a lot of expensive layout changes to your kitchen.

On another board I visit, there is a thread about about the US Federal Agency considering a ban on gas stoves.

Buying any appliance is in large parta gamble. A company may have a record of making reliable products, but that record is based on products made often decades ago and they don't make things the same now.

California has already banned the sale of new gas stoves, water heaters and furnaces effective in 2030. You can continue to use existing ones, you just can't buy a new one
In California it is part of the states effort to reduce people's carbon foot print. Sales of gasoline powers cars will be banned as of 2035 for the same reasons.
In the case of the PROPOSED federal law, it has to do with how many cases of asthma has been linked to emissions from gas stoves inside homes.
Where I live, natural gas historically has been much more expensive than electricity, so all electric subdivisions are common. And for me, I don't feel save with natural gas appliances after 42 years of covering gas leaks, explosions, and carbon monoxide poisoning in homes.
