confused on when I can use Sept 2018 points?

So I just joined DVC....I have 150 points from 2015 and 2016 that I can currently use. I understand that. Where I get confused in on a future trip we want to book...for Dec 2017. I know I can book it 7 months out for the location I want..that would be May 2017. So I can use Sept 2016 points and Sept 2017. However, does this mean that I cannot use Sept 2018 points? Would I need to wait until Sept 2017 to book using those points?

You can use the 2018 points for a any trip that will fall within your 2017 use year (9/1/2017 - 8/31/2018). You would be borrowing those points to do that and you may book as soon as your 7 month (for a non-home resort) or 11 month for your home resort) window opens for the dates you want to travel. (So you could borrow points from your 2018 use year to make that December 2017 reservation. You would borrow when you are actually making the reservation that will use them).

You may also use those 2018 points for any trip that falls within your 2018 use year (9/1/2018 - 8/31/2019). They would be considered current use year points for that trip and again , you may book as soon as your 7 or 11 month window opens.

If you bank the 2018 points into your 2019 use year, you may use them for any trip that falls within your 2019 use year (9/1/2019 - 8/31/2020). Again, you may use them as soon as your 7 month or 11 month window opens for the dates you want to travel.

Do you understand banking rules? If you still have 2015 points, and they will expire if not used or bank by the 4 month dead line.

September's banking deadline is April 30th. If you just bought direct, they will bank them after the deadline. If you bought resale, likely not.

The points need to be available for your stay, not when you book. Look at the date of your trip, decide what UY that date in. You need points in that UY by banking, using current, or borrowing. Banking and borrowing are final transactions and can't be reversed. Banked points can be banked only once. You can bank points during the first 8 months of any UY.

Thanks so much, this helps! And I do know how banking works, but no issue for 2015 points as those are going to a trip already booked! It sounds like my Dec 2017 Aulani trip should work after all since I can use 2018 points!!
