Confused on packing

I'm confused - I'm pretty sure I've been told I'm not to pack electrical items in my suitcase but I'm sure I did this last time.

What's the official line here as I don't really want to lug my Sony discman and speakers and battery charger in my hand luggage as I never listen to it on the plane anyway.

Dangerous Goods, the following articles should never be packed in baggage:


Explosives - fireworks, flares, toy guns and caps

Flammable & Non Flammable Gas - aerosols (over 2kg. or 2 litres), camping gas cylinders

Carbon dioxide cylinders for soda siphons, lighter refills, butane gas cylinders, filled aqua lung cylinders, mace

Deeply refrigerated gases - liquid nitrogen

Flammable liquids - paints, thinners, solvents

Flammable solids - firelighters

Oxidising materials - bleaches

Don't forget that the baggage handlers will see all your valuable electrical equipment on their X-ray machines. I assume you trust them.

Dodgy one this is.

Most bombs hidden in suitcases need to have batteries attatched, so remove the batteries, but keep them handy so that you can show thet the CD/radio will work. If you can keep in hand luggage if not pack near the top of your case so that it can be seen and looked at.

If questioned you will need to show that the item operates as intended so make sure batteries are charged and there is a CD/tape available.

Best I can do as airlines and security reg's vary a lot.

We have for the past few tears on Virgin flights packed the speakers without batterie in the suitcase and as DH likes to listen to the walkman carried that on the plane with no problems at all. As has alredy been said make sure you are able to show battery items do work at short notice. I also always pack my hairdrier and battery razor in suitcase. The only thing I will carry on is camera and film plus camcorder and charger as if they went AWOL I wouldn't be very happy. Also travelled to Lanzarote in October with Monach and had no probles wth electricals in suitcase.
