Confused on Magic Band

I am seeing conflicting answers to my research. We are going in June. There will be 3 of us. Last year we went and there were 4 of us. One of us is not going this year. So, we had 4 bands from last year. However we lost one. So we have 3 now. One of those belonged to the party that is not going with us.

So, i would like to have 3 magic bands. I want to use them for fast past and entry into the parks and hotel room. Do i need to buy a new band? And how do the other bands get activated with the new tickets and hotel on them?

Go into your account and Edit the names. Change the name that still has a band to the person who will be on the room reservation.

Change the name to the lost MB as "Lost."

Then, link separate tickets to the correct people or if you have booked a package, the correct people will have the package. With new onsite stays, you do receive new MBs if you want them.

Your magic bands from last year will work. You cannot swap magic bands - each person will need to continue to use their original band. It sounds like you are staying at a Disney property, if so you'll be able to order new bands for the people on your reservation.

You can order and customize the bands using My Disney Experience website. Same place you would make dining reservations and FP selections.

If you have booked an on-site resort stay then you will be given new magic bands for your party automatically. Just go through the customization procedure to pick your colors and such. They will be shipped to you before your trip.

If you are staying at a Disney owned & operated resort, you are eligible for free MagicBands for each stay. If you haven't already, link your room reservation to your MDE account. Once linked, go to the MagicBands & Cards page and there will be a option to customize MagicBands for that stay.
