Confused on how to use points

Hello all,
Very very new to the process of booking/point usage, etc. I’ve been reading everything I can, but I just need to get this on “paper” and ask the good people of this board for a little help. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Background: We are in the ROFR part on a 200 point contract at BWV. I just called DVC and tried to purchase 75 direct points at BLT. First on a waiting list. Anyway, here is how we want to use the points:

Scenario 1: 4 adults, 1 toddler under 3. Traveling 2020 right after school gets out for summer. Likely one week that ends on or before 6/10.

Booking: UY is September. We want to use the 75 points at BLT. When can I actually call to book? The first day of 11 months before or exactly 11 months before check-in day? Can I book a 2BR for only 75 points worth of days? Borrow 2020 points for a total of 150 and then hope to add on at 7 months with BWV points? Waitlist, when? Book BWV at 11 month for a just-in-case split stay?

Can you tell I’m confused?

Thank you!

If you want a 2 bedroom at BLT in June, 75 points won't even get you 2 nights. One night in a standard view 2 br is 43 or 48 points.

First you look at the points chart. DVC News usually has the charts if you don’t want to look at the member website. You have to look at the correct resort, time frame and unit size. Also day of the week.

Then you have to remember that at 11 months you can only use points from the contract for the resort you want to book. Can’t use BWV points to book at BLT at 11 months.

You can book online through the member website. You do not have to book by phone.

You book on 11 months before the date you want, not on the first day of the month.

You can borrow as part of the booking process if you need to.

True. Here’s my question: can I borrow 75 from the next year, making a total of 150 at BLT and then another 167 from our BWV points to net 317 points, the amount needed for one week at BLT in a 2BR during Dream Season? Can I do that all at 11 months? Some at 11, some at 7? Wait list? If so, when?

If you are booking June 3, 2020, for example, you can call or go online on July 3, 2019, to book up to 7 nights at BWV with BWV pts or BLT with BLT pts.

A stay for June 2020 will fall towards the end of your Sept 2019 UY, so you have access to current 2019 UY pts plus banked 2018 UY pts (if any) plus borrowed 2020 UY pts if needed.

If you purchased a direct BLT contract with a September UY now, you would be in your 2018 UY. A 75 pt BLT contract would give you up to 225 BLT pts to use to book BLT at 11 months out. You could not use any BWV pts at BLT until the 7 month window.

I'd also add that September is not a good UY for June stays due to the risk of losing pts if you need to cancel.

You can borrow from your BLT points to book at BLT at 11 months. You may not combine points from 2 resorts until 7 months. You might have trouble getting a standard view at 7 months, but you will have better luck getting a preferred view, for about 5 more points per nights.

I agree that BLT Lake View is the best bet if you plan to try with BWV pts at the 7 month window.

:thanks:

Thank you! I have searched all over for this answer! :flower:

Ahhh...I think I finally get it. Maybe...if we can get the direct contract now, or very soon, that’s 75 2018 points. But another 75 will be available September 1 and we can borrow another 75 from 2020 because as of check-in we will be in the 2019 UY which would be considered the “current” UY?

So let’s say I book 225 points worth on July 3, 2019. How/when do I get the other 92 points worth of days? Can I wait list on July 3?

Yes, for sure. But DH and I want to go to food and wine. The 2 BR is only for one ....................of the adult kids and his fam plus us about every 3 years. Other adult kid plus DGD are happy in a studio with us. ...

Right. UY is based on the dates of your stay. Nothing at all to do with when you can book.

Once you spend your banked, current and borrowed BLT pts to book however many nights you can, you would have to wait till the 7 month window to use BWV pts to book the remaining nights.

The 7 month window would start from the first night of the "new" reservation. So if you booked June 3 for 5 nights with BLT pts and still needed to book June 8 and 9, you could not book or waitlist until July 8, 2019.
