Confused about when I can book

Our use year is February. We have some 2011 points which we can bank into 2012. We want to call February 1, 2011 and book for January 2012. This will require borrowing from our February 2012 points. Can we do this?

You can call Feb 1 to make a reservation with a check-in date of 1/1/2012 or earlier. Since Jan 2012 is in your 2011 UY, you can borrow points from 2012. Banking and borrowing are final transcations. If you cancel a reservation that uses banked or borrowed points, those points will expire at the end of the UY the reservation takes place in.

A January 2012 stay would be in your 2011 use year so you can borrow from 2012. You can use banked 2010, 2011 would be current, 2012 can be borrowed. You don't want to bank those 2011 points for this reservation. If you bank your 2011 points, they could only be used for a stay 2/1/12 to 1/31/13.

extra info just in case you need it:

*if you want to book a stay (of 7 nights or less) starting on jan 15, 2012, you can call as early as feb 15, 2011 to book it.

*when you call on feb 15, 2011, you can book the stay with banked 2010 pts, current 2011 pts or borrowed 2012 pts. once you bank or borrow pts, they cannot be put back into their original use year, and will expire at the end of the use year they were banked or borrowed into.

*traveling at the end of your UY - such as january for a feb UY - is a little riskier. if you need to cancel in november, for example, you will be past your banking deadline of sept 30 and will have to find a way to use the pts before they expire on jan 31.
