Confused about SSR promotion... (Update/see last post)

Hello, I am hoping someone out there can help me.

While on our cruise last week, we took advantage of the SSR promo and added on 150 more points at SSR (previously had 150 OKW and 150 BWV). We have a Dec. use year for all points. When talking to our guide on the cruise, he told us we would get our Dec. 2004 points as well as the Dec. 2005 points. I called Member Services today and she said they are only showing the 2005 points.

Does anyone know if it usually takes some time for the 2004 points to show up (guide said all banking rules were to be waived and entire 150 from 2004 could be banked). Could this be the delay? I do have a call in to our guide, but he hasn't called me back, so I thought I'd find out if any of you have an answer for me! Thanks. Krista

Not completely sure but interesting question. As current DVC members do you get the allocation of 2004 points? Doesn't sound right to me, if it is that's one heck of a great deal!

We just got 150 SSR points (not current DVC member) and got only 2005 points.

Again, since I am not a current owner I do not know if the incentives are different, but will read and see if someone else does.

I think I read on the original long forum that it is only 2005 points.

With any DVC purchase made thru DVC directly, you will get the current use Year's points at purchase. In the case of an existing member with a Use year of December, the current Use Year is 2004- the 2005 points will become available on December 1, 2005.

There are new members who purchased SSR last spring and got a December Use Year, but right now they are selling June Use Year contracts and are now in the June, 2005 Use Year.

I'd continue to try to contact your guide to have them follow up on the add-on points- they should be in your account soon if not there already. I'd also continue to call MS to verify that they are in your account. You can also speak with Member Accounting (follow the prompts when you call MS) and see if they can clarify your recent purchase regarding those points.

I'm sure it will all be cleared up quickly.

Normal rules would dictate tha you would receive 2004 points (however, you would not be able to bank at this time). However, I have heard that this is not the case for this deal. Perhaps this is because only Dec UY would benefit? In any event, your paperwork should clearly indicate that you will not get these points as this is a change in policy.

Thanks for all the replies. Our guide did tell us more than once that we would get the 2004 points and the banking "rules" would not apply so we would end up getting all 150 points from 2004. Our paperwork is on it's way, so I don't have that to refer to.

I will really have a problem if they end up changing the rules on us part way through the process, especially when our guide did tell us repeatedly we would be getting the 2004 points.

Still wating for a call from my guide. I do need to talk to him today or tomorrow, because we have to call within 3 business days (MS was closed on Mon.), to get the discounted cruise points for 2006. Thanks. Krista

Okay, here is the update. Our guide is off today, but I did get the paperwork. The deed says that my use year starts Dec 05. My proposed paperwork from on the Magic says use year is Dec 04. I called Quality Control and they said that the Dec 04 use year sold out while we were on the Magic and I was out of luck. I am just extremely angry right now. Any suggestions? Thanks. Krista

Oh I'd be angry too! I know you probably won't sleep tonight but call your guide and talk to him tomorrow, he might have something he needs to (or is able to) change. If this is a selling point for you (I'm guessing it was, it would have been for us) I would hope he or his supervisor would be able to work it out for you.

I would definitely call your guide tomorrow and complain. You were not given what was told to you when you signed the contract and agreed to the deal. There should be something they could do to make it right.

I know you can back out the purchase if the terms are not what you understood. You will have to speak with your guide to see what can be done.

It sounds a little strange that a specific Use Year would sell out on the cruise, but I suppose it could happen. Was any urgency indicated when you discussed it on your cruise?

This is not the first post that indicated that no 2004 points would be included. Since this is a recent promotion, only Dec UY is impacted. DVC policy has always been to give you those points for add-on's right up to November 30th. I personally don't think they should bank them for you but should have them allocated to you (rent or last minute trip). This would be a huge issue for me as well. Let us know how this works out.

There wasn't any urgency at all.


I did speak with the other guide who was on the cruise and it sounds like they are going to try and make it all work out (Developer's points or something like that). I am talking to my guide in the morning and will update then.

We have an April UY and added on last week. I know when I talked to my guide she said the DEC. UY was sold out for the current promotion and those UY's would have to wait until phase 3 to purchase. I am not sure if phase 3 means Dec. 2005. Let us know what happens. Good thing your read your paperwork!

you should only get 2005 points. you say the 2005 points are in the system but not the 2004 dont you think the 2004 will show up first. i hope the guide didnt tell you that just to get a sale, i hope it was a honest mistake. but either way it doesnt do you any good. if its not in your contract about the 2004 points and if your 15 days are up there probaly is nothing you can do.

No - the OP should get 2004 points for a December UY right up to November 30th. Should not be developer points and should not be able to bank at this late date. In fact, should not even have to ask for them - it's policy.
