Hello there- First time going to Disneyworld in Sept- Just me and my Mom!! So trying to help my Mom plan and we are slightly confused when it comes to this whole dinning thing. I have a list of places that we would like to eat at. Not sure, but I can make these reservations online or via phone.... I read somewhere that you need to pay for the reservations? That is what is confusing me. How much is it? What if I change my mind for a certain place to eat will I get credit? I use a CC to place the reservation- do I have to pay for the meal with the same CC? Just wondering how this works thanks for any info!

Only some meals require payment-in-full at the time of booking. Cinderella's Royal Table, and I think the dinner shows require PIF. They have a decent cancellation policy, just in case, but get familiar with it. Other popular places require a CC to secure a spot, to be charged if you are a no-show, like Cali. Grill. However, most restaurants don't require anything other than your name and such. Currently, no-shows are not charged at most places.

You can visit the Disney website and book your ADRs online but that's a skilled task, LOL. If it's your first time booking ADRs, I'd call the 1-407-WDW-DINE and go from there.

Good luck and have fun! And get your ADRs in at the 180 day mark (at least try, for those popular places).

Thank you! So if I went on-line or call by phone somebody or somewhere I will read if there is a cancellation charge or a no show charge? Thanks for quick reply!

Pretty much. The common rule is that if you have to enter a CC at time of booking, there is either a CC hold or Pre-payment in place for that restaurant. The poster above was correct that for the pre-paid restaurants, it's just CRT and the 3 dinner shows. For CC holds (these will take your # and only charge if you don't show up or don't cancel within the allotted timeframe, usually 48hours) this is Akershus and California Grill. (Not sure if there is one other, I feel like there is... but can't remember. I think both V&A and Bistro may have policies too... but I'm probably wrong)

So, if you are interested in the above restaurants, be prepared to give your CC number at the time of booking. If you are on an applicable dining plan, you may get away with having the pre-paid locations be simple CC holds instead (this sometimes works online, and sometimes not). For the CC holds, as mentioned, the card is only charged if you fail to abide by the cancellation policy, you may then pay for the meal however you wish when you pay the check (you don't even need to have that particular card on you).

I booked the Ohana and it seems that they also need your CC to guarantee the spot.
This is what I got in my confirmation email:

A credit card is required to guarantee this meal; the full price of ordered meals will be charged if you cancel within one day of the reservation or are a "no show" for the reservation. At family-style or buffet locations, you will only receive one meal; does not include all-you-care-to-eat. You will be charged the regular buffet or all-you-care-to-eat price.

'Ohana does not require a CC hold. I just booked it to try it out (don't worry, it'll be cancelled here in the next few minutes :p).

However, what it does say is:
Ohana Confirmaiton said:
  • Dietary Policies
    • Most Walt Disney World Resort table-service restaurants that accept advance reservations can accommodate Kosher needs if requested at least 24 hours in advance by calling (407) WDW-DINE or (407) 939-3463. Guests under age 18 must have parent or guardian permission to call. A credit card is required to guarantee this meal; the full price of ordered meals will be charged if you cancel within one day of the reservation or are a "no show" for the reservation. Easy to mistake if just skimming through.

Ohh, ok, sorry.
I misunderstood that one. So it is just for the cases when you preorder a special diet.

thank you for clearing it up.
