Confused about magic bands and other things

Hi everyone! It has been 10 years since I have been on the boards and at WDW. Needless to say lots has changed. Trying to figure out the magic bands. If there is nothing "on" them, then I don't get what they are for. I thought it was a replacement for the plastic cards that were used as room keys, charge cards etc. But now I'm not sure. It also looks like I have to have fastpasses for everything even to see characters? And I don't understand why I would need a fastpass for Wishes,can't fireworks be seen from everywhere? Obviously, I have a lot to catch up on!

You certainly don't have to have to have a FP for everything, and not all meet and greets offer them anyway. You don't need a FP for Wishes - what it offers is viewing from a specific spot.

Nothing *is* on a magic band - your ticket entitlements, hotel reservation, charging information, etc, are on your My Disney Experience (MDE) account and your magic band is how you access those things.

There is no money "on" your credit/debit card either.
But, the cards are used to ACCESS the money that is in your account by scanning the cards.

No tickets are "on" your MagicBand.
But, the MB is used to ACCESS your WDW tickets in your MDE account by scanning the MB.
