My ds11 has decided he wants a Keruig COffee Maker for xmas:rotfl: Well he is special... So I decided to look into it, since he loves coffee and there isnt much that he's into as for toys.

But my problem is there are like 150 different models. The cheapest ones I could find are $99.99 or so. There are also more expensive models, but i don't understand the difference:lmao: They all make only one cup of expensive, but good coffee, right?

Thanks, also, any idea on where I could find one less than $80 or so?

Kohls has a mini Keurig on sale for $100. If you have a Kohls charge, you can get it for 30% with the code HOLIDAYGIFTS. I'm not sure what the differences are-we're looking to buy one this year for Christmas too.

Basically the differences are the cup size it can make and the size of the water reservoir. The mini doesn't hold water, you have to add it each time you want to make a cup and is best for travel. If you aren't going to use it much, the mini would be fine. If you like to make different sizes and don't want to fill up the reservoir as often then you want to go with another model.

I agree. For as much as he will use it, I would go with the mini. They are all the same as mentioned but the basic difference is the water reservoir. He could fiil it when he wanted to use it....it would only take a second to do so.
Luv my Keurig though!!;)

Love, love, love my mini keurig!!! He will LOVE it too! I get everything (including the machine itself) at Kohl's using the 30% code. I stock up on the k-cups every time the 30% sale comes up. I'm not sure what kind of coffee your husband likes, but our favorite is Green Mountain Breakfast Blend. It is absolutely wonderful if you don't like a strong coffee. It if very light and very smooth. We did try some of the others that came with the machine as samples but this is our favorite.

I bought a big Keurig at the Goodwill last month for $25. Target "salvages" their returns to Goodwill, who then sells them. Honestly, it's like brand new. I could tell someone used it once and then returned it to Target.

So, if you have a Goodwill near you, try calling to see if they get Target's cast-offs. Before buying mine, I saw a woman who said she had bought two from the Goodwill. That's when I started looking.

Also, QVC will probably offer it as a TSV very soon; they usually do so every XMas season.

I got mine from QVC 2 years ago and love, love it! My brother has the mini and we are taking it to Disney with us.

It will be the Today's Special Value on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I just got my programming guide in the mail today with my order. It usually comes with the free filter so that you can use your own coffee instead of the k-cups and a bunch of extra cups. I bet it will be the larger model though and not the smaller/cheaper one.

I have the larger machine that I got at BJS or Sams club for $129 including 80 coffee k-cups. We love it. We then bought my grandmother the mini & we dont like it. Only makes one size cup. You have to fill up the water each time you use it....If you know someone in Foodservice Green Mountain usually has a 1 day special at the food shows on the commercial model with free k-cups.

My advice would be to go at least one step up from the mini. Unless you are using the Keurig for travel then the mini is fine but having the water reservoir is what I like the best about the Keurig. You can make a cup of coffee immediately, with the mini you have to wait for the water to heat up.
Watch for the post Thanksgiving sales, I picked up a B60 model at Macy's last year for under $120. If you have a Costco membership you can also check there as they have a deal with the Keurig, k cups and the my k cup (you can use regular coffee grounds in a special cup).
Once you have a Keurig you will never want another coffee maker - if mine broke tomorrow I would be out picking up a new one immediately!

Agree completely - go for the Elite, which is the next step up from the mini. I also agree about never going back - we've had ours since last xmas, and just last week we decided to freecycle our ten cup standard coffee pot that we had been saving "in case" we didn't like the keurig.

I would not buy the mini. The lack of different cup sizes is frustrating. If you have a Kohl's charge you might want to get your Keurig through them when you have or get a 30% off coupon. Keurig's don't usually go on sale but Kohl's allows you to use their 30% off coupon on them but you have to have a Kohl's charge. Right now through the 17th of November you can find a 30% off coupon for Kohl's online and also a free shipping coupons (do a google search).

By the way -- we have had a Keurig for about 3 years. We are on our 9th one -- literally. They have broken down for us about every 4-6 months. Fortunately Keurig's customer service department is AWESOME. They have always replaced it for free but it is very frustrating. The best Keurig can determine is that the the problem is that we have well water which has a high mineral content. Apparently the high mineral content (even though we filter the water) destroys the inside of the Keurig over time. Descaling, etc. doesn't really help. This time Keurig is sending us their new office model to see if it will last any longer for us. If this one breaks I will give up on Keurig.

I have an upgraded version as well.........and would agree with buying something a "few steps up" if you will, if he wasn't 11:lmao:!! I still think at that age, you aren't putting out a ton of money just in case he doesn't use it as much as he thinks he will! And the mini works great!

But an 11 year old that thinks coffee:rotfl2:LOVE it!! Too cute!

What's the story with disposing of the little cups after use? I have heard they can not go to the recycle bin - is this true? Is this because they have the grounds still inside? or is it the type of plastic used?

There was a Keurig coffee machine in a hotel room we stayed at recently - I LOVED it! I have been reading all of the relevant threads, and I am thinking I will ask Santa to bring me one...I am the only coffee drinker in the house, but DH loves hot chocolate some mornings, and the occasional cup of tea.

I just had a great idea - every year he accuses me of buying a present for him that I really want to own myself....maybe I will get one of these and a box of hot chocolate cups for him.:rolleyes1

Count me as one of those people who tried the Keurig and returned it almost immediately. I prefer my coffee strong (espresso-like) and I couldn't find anything suitable in a k-cup and the my K cup thing was a bigger pain than simply brewing a strong half pot of coffee with a paper filter in Mr. Coffee.

That's interesting. At our house we think the Keurig brews too STRONG of a cup! My mom actually runs one batch of water through the Kcup on the tall glass size (ice tea cup size). She dumps that out. Then she brews another cup through the same Kcup. Then she adds a little water to her cup. :) DH is able to use the Kcup only once, but it took awhile to find a brand that he thought wasn't too strong (Coffee House decaf). I use the Twinings tea Kcups. I find the first cup I brew through the Kcup on the large setting on the Elite is too strong, but I drink it. I then use the same one a second time for my second cup of tea. I like this one better. I even run a third cup through the same Kcup, but that one is a little on the weak side. I have a Keurig in my office at work and my one Kcup lasts me all day for 3 cups of tea!

I have an Elite in my office and we have the big QVC special value one with the added size at home.

I just wanted to post in solidarity. My 7-year old loves coffee. We only do decaf, but I always get looks when I order it for him. He'd probably love a keurig if the coffee were strong enough. :rotfl2:

Do you know for how much?

we got the costco model a few months back..love it. I hate coffee but I get up every morning to make hubby coffee. It is so easy put the pod in select the size and go.

I will say I did buy the mini at first from Kohls. It is very basic. It went back, we think the size and water reservior are too valuable. I use the hot water function a lot for my girls and the oatmeal in the am.

So go for the ellite
