confused about height requirements

OK, I thought I had it figured out that certain rides the height requirement applied only to who can ride alone - or am I wrong?
For instance Buzz Lightyear's Astroblaster says 51 inches. NONE of my younger children are that tall. Seems that is to ride alone - but now I am confused. Will my children be able to go on anything? My littlest one is only 2 and of course any ride he went on so would I - but is that allowed??

Any help would be appreciated!

There will be plenty of rides you can do with the little ones. I usually check http://allearsnet.com/tp/rr.htm but they don't have Buzz Lightyear listed, so I am not sure when the last update was. Some rides have a height requirement to ride at all, some have requirements that mean little ones need an adult along but can go as long as they are accompanied. I'd start with allears.net and then check the official Disney site for info on specific rides.

The 51 inches is for the child to ride alone. He will be able to go on almost all the rides with you. On the Buzz ride, there are two Astroblasters in each spaceship. My two year old was able to reach the button, but sometimes he sat on my lap. It was his favorite ride, and he even managed to score 3100 points all by himself.
The main rides with a 40 or 44 inch height requirments are the Mountain coasters--Space, Big Thunder, and Splash. There are a few minor rides at MK with height requirements--the Stitch ride and Goofy's Barnstormer come to mind, but there are dozens of rides with no height requirement.

At MGM, Tower of Terror and Rock n' Roller Coaster are the main rides with height requirements. At Epcot, it's Test Track and Mission Space. AK doesn't have many rides to begin with, and, unfortunately, several of them have height requirements.

No - there are a few rides with a height restriction at each park. A list can be found here in the Dis -

The the minimum age only applies to those already meeting the height requirement that want to ride without an adult. For example the minimum height for Space Mountain is 44" but to ride without an adult you have to be at least 7 and 44". A 6yo 44" child can ride but with a parent.

FWIW - the attraction you mention "Buzz Lightyears Astroblaster" is at Disney Quest - kind of like riding in a pinball machine. Don't be confused with Buzz Lightyears Spaceranger Spin at MK which has no height requirement.

Actually WDW dosen't have a height requirement to ride without and adult. They have an age requirement 7 and up + you must meet the height.

My dd's wanted to ride barnstormer (36" minimum) and sit together in the row in front of me. The cm said this would be considered riding alone and WDW required them to be 7. Luckily they were 8 and 10 and the time so things worked out.

IIRC, AK has only three rides with a height restriction, Primeval whirl 48", Dinasour 40" and Kali River Rapids 38".

For Barnstormer it must depend on the CM, because in 2003 they let my 3 yr ride with the 6 yr old front row and i rode behind them, it was so funny to watch them giggle and scream.
