Confused About FD

So we're looking at booking the March dates which are 3/4-3/10. Now if I understand correctly, we have to START our stay on one of those days right? We can't arrive on the 3rd and get free dining throughout our trip, correct? Will we be able to arrive on 3/10 and stay for 7 nights and get free dining for all 7 nights? This is my first time with free dining (heck, only our second trip to WDW ) so I have no idea what I'm doing.

Also, my mother in law is coming along on this trip. Will I be able to book her package as well or will she have to call on her own? We'll have a different credit card for her... thank you so much!!!

Yes you have to start your trip on one of those dates and then you will get FD for your entire vacation up to 14 days (no, you cannot arrive on the 3rd)
