Confused about Fantasmic!

How is Fantasmic! running in January when Rivers of America is closed? Aren't they emptying the river?? I am excited that it is, since it's not showing tomorrow when we go, but am wondering what's going on.

F! Isn't running when they empty the RoA. It will be down from the first week of January, until they refill it.

I do see that F! is on the schedule for Tues, Wed, and Thursday the first week in Jan. even though it shows all the boats on the river will be closed. Starting on Friday F! isn't showing. So, either the website is wrong, or they river won't be drained until Friday. I'm thinking the website is wrong.

Funny thing is I haven't been able to pull up the Jan. calendar at all but if you go to Dec. 31st and pull up the next 10 days you will see the first week of January.

I would keep checking the website, or call Disney to see what the schedule for F! really is. I hope you get to see it.

Maybe they're expecting larger crowds because of the championship game at the Rose Bowl on January 7?

FWIW, here's what Darkbeer wrote at another forum:

"Yes, Fantasmic! last day is currently January 3rd, though some folks think Disney MIGHT postpone the closure of the Rivers to January 18th for Marketing reasons (BCS Championship game, NAMM Show and MLK, Jr. Holiday). But it looks like the Marketing folks are going to lose this round, as the Maintenance staff are claiming the need to start on the 4th to have Fantasmic! back up and running by mid-June.

There is still some debate, and I think George K. hasn't made the final call yet, and it might be a compromise, with the closure on January 11th, but everything I have heard still has the closure on January 4th."

Thanks for the info. The park hours would suggest they are not expecting large crowds. I'm putting my $$ on a website error or indecision my management.

Update:

On the official calendar, the first week in January (Tues., Wed., and Thurs.) no longer has Fantasmic scheduled.

So there's no Fantasmic scheduled after Sunday, January 3.

that would actually make sense as that is the night of the National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl.
