What is considered a "preferred view" vs. a "standard view". Is the Boardwalk view request a preferred view and what about canal view? Thanks for any insight into this for a new DVC member! :wave2:

The PV - Boardwalk view rooms overlook the Boardwalk and Crescent Lake.

The SV rooms overlook the resort entrance, driveway leading up to it and the parking lots.

Everything else is considered a PV - Pool/Garden.

All the PV rooms cost the same. Your confirmation letter will state which PV you have reserved.

HTH.

Best wishes -

There are some standard views that do not look directly onto the entrance or a parking lot. As you face the front entrance of the BW, the wing that extends out to your left goes around a corner and the rooms there look out onto ther tennis courts. I believe those are still SV rooms. the other benefit of those is that they have a great view of the Studios and at night you can see some of the fireworks from Fantasmic.

I'm not sure of the room numbers, but maybre someone else can help out there. the only disadvantage is that it is a major hike from the elevators so at the end of the day, those hallways look like they go on FOREVER!!!

So if we want to avoid a noisy location (e.g., overlooking the Boardwalk stores) because our baby sleeps early (by 8 pm) we should go with Standard Views only?

We have stayed in all the views except over the pool. The BW view rooms are actually very quiet when you have the patio doors closed. We are actually at the BWV right now in 4069 which is a SV 1 bdr. It happens to be the 1st room from the elevators. I wasn't too thrilled as I thought it might be noisy but it hasn't been. It looks directly over the front entrance. We have had many standard views and the previous poster was correct that they line the front entrance and drive. We like to save the points, so we try for a SV but are not always that lucky as many BW owners prefer them. However, my favorite room overlooked the canal across from the Swan and Dolphin. It was at the end of the hall and incredibly quiet. We would look out at night and not see anyone on the canal or bridge. We return in December and will have a BW view. We have enjoyed all our stays at the BW and don't get too picky about the views. I can actually say we haven't had a noisy room. Every time we're here I grow to love it even more.

We've stayed in both standard view rooms and Boardwalk view rooms and did find the BW view room to be noisier (it didn't really bother us, but BW was noisier than SV). It is true that when you have the balcony doors closed, the noise is noticably reduced.

IMHO, the quietest rooms are those overlooking the new croquet lawn (when it's finished) and those in the Community Hall/Quiet pool area. Both of those areas are considered PV - Pool/Garden. FWIW, neighbor noise (if you are in a lock off studio or 1 bedroom) and hallway noise (talking running, etc.) is far more distracting/disturbing than anything that comes from outside.

The quietest rooms are those farthest from the elevators. If you are traveling with strollers, wheelchairs, ECVs or anyone who has difficulty using the stairways, you'll have to decide if quiet is more important than close to the elevators.

Do you think the PV are worth the extra points?

Even though the points charts show standard and preferred views, the preferred view rooms are actually reserved as 2 subcategories - preferred boardwalk and preferred pool/garden.

I also would love to save the points and go with a SV but they do go fast!! We have stayed in units on the village green, looking toward Epcot, close to the elevators, up above Muscles and Bustles. It was very quiet. We were on the top floor though. Also loved our unit that was above the quiet pool and Community Hall, looking towards the S/D. That was waaaay at the end of the hall, and again, very quiet.

I think that I would go with just a preferred view room. I wouldn't ask for a Boardwalk view...just the plain ole preferred view.

I certainly enjoyed having the Boardwalk view. It was heavenly to sit on that balcony in the early mornings (anywhere from 5 - 7 am), sip coffee and watch the area come alive. We were there last December and the Holiday tag to the EPCOT fireworks was simply awesome - felt the vibrations inside the room - even with the balcony door closed, LOL.

That said, IMHO, the standard view rooms are the best bargain anywhere on site. You still get the great EPCOT resort location for almost the same "price" as OKW. Some of the SV rooms have a decent view of the higher level IllumiNations fireworks from the balcony and there is usually some kind of activity to observe around the resort entrance. Lots of nice landscaping, France in the distance, ducks and other birds in the mornings and did I mention the standard view rooms all have that great Boardwalk location, but cost less points? :teeth:

Yes, there are good reasons that BWV owners almost always book those standard view rooms up well before the 7 month window opens. There are not very many SV rooms (less than 20% of the BWV total, IIRC) - I think SV rooms book even faster than the guaranteed Boardwalk views.

Yes these are standard rate and are my favorite rooms in the place, Yeah in honor of Rich I have to say they are WAAAYYYYYYY down the hall. but there are doors daone there and you walk out of them real close to th ebust stop parking lot and 1/4 of the way down the walk way to MGM.

and what about canal view?
I personally was not thrilled with the canal view we had. If it was just the canal it would have been nice as TOT could also be seen when standing on the balcony and turning to the right (room 4131). Unfortunately, the main view for these PV points was that of the valet parking lot and service area driveway. We saw service trucks driving up and down doing deliveries (I guess ?) This is pretty much what we saw from inside the room. Next time I'll know to request "pool" view because I think the "garden" view is hit or miss. The main pool view is actually very nice imo. I actually called the lobby and MS thinking I had mistakenly been placed in a SV room because of the parking lot view. Our room was about 3rd from the end of the hallway and it was a long walk to the lobby but I will say it was very quiet there.

So, since it looks like we will be booking at the 7 month window, if we are able to get standard view, when we arrive which standard rooms/views should we request?

I'd suggest N/S (or smoking), upper floor near the bus stop. These are not too far from the elevators & usually have view of fireworks (unless you end up with a tree blocking the view). If you can use the stairs, you'll be close to the bus stop, Community Hall/quiet pool ( & not to far from Luna Park, either) and you'll be about the same distance to either MGM or EPCOT. We mostly walk to both.

If you book standard view, ask MS to put your requests on the reservation. In my experience, BWV pretty much pre assigns the rooms - very few if any are assigned via room ready method. Still doesn't hurt to get there early in the day if you can, though.

Good luck!

If you want quiet I would recommend not getting boardwalk view. Its not noisy like in a downtown city, but theres is activity at just about all hours of the day. Not always "bad" activity but none the less it leads to noise. The horns on the boats are especially loud. they sound more like car horns than boat horns and we found that the boat drivers tend to get bored and try to out-beep each other every so often.
