conformation number

It doesn't seem like it should be an issue from either party. There's no risk to the member with you having the number prior to payment because they could alway cancel or change it to another name at any time which is a risk of a private rental. OTOH, there's no protection to you having the number for the same reason. All it does is let you know there is a reservation in your name, for someone you've checked out appropriately, this is close to meaningless. However, if you're already having issues, haven't paid any money and weren't told of this restriction up front; I'd just move on. If you were told, then you've made your bed.

I agree with Dean, there shouldn't be a problem giving the reservation number to you and there is no downside in doing so.

I would find a new owner.
