Conflicting reports: Can you get a DAC at Disney Springs now?

I'm hoping my oldest son will qualify for a DAC. I've read that back when it was Downtown Disney, you couldn't get a DAC at that park because there was no official cast member at Guest Services there. However, I heard through the grapevine (a friend said another friend said her nephew, etc) that since the change to Disney Springs there may be a CM there who can issue them.

I'm betting that the boards are right on this and there's still no CM there, but (for a lot of lengthy reasons) it would save us a LOT of time if we could get a DAC there, so I thought I'd double check here before I write it off as misinformed hearsay.

There is a Guest Relations location at Disney Springs (and was at the former Downtown Disney). However, the reason you cannot get a DAS there is because it has no validity at Disney Springs. Only CMs at one of the four major theme parks can issue a DAS. You can do ticket upgrades and many other services at Disney Springs, but not the DAS.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you! Not the greatest news for my schedule, lol, but good to have my suspicions confirmed at least. :)

Agree with lanejudy.

Just to clarify - the CMs at Guest Relations are real CMs, but DAS can only be issued at Guest Relations at the Theme Parks.
It is not even available at Guest Relations at the water parks- only at the Theme Parks, where it can be used.

. . . Not the greatest news for my schedule, lol . . .

1) I do not understand.
2) You want to go to a park, any how.
3) Just get it when you enter the park.
4) Guest Services is open during all "park hours".
5) SOMETIMES (repeat SOME times), they will issue on outside the gates, but plan upon Guest Services after entry.

We're headed to the park with extended family (some of whom are elderly) all of whom will be heading there at the same time the first morning of our trip. I'm trying to do what we can to avoid a scenario where we get stuck in a line at Guest Services and leave a party of 20 people waiting on us to start their day, that's all. Anything I can do ahead of time so we can get the whole group into the park smoothly would be a good thing. :) We're stopping at Disney Springs the afternoon before anyway, so it would have been convenient to get that out of the way early. It's not a huge deal to stop at guest services that morning, but I like to work out any possible kinks ahead of time whenever I can.

We get one each year for one of our party (ASD) so we go for rope drop on the first day and rush into Guest Relations. As we are one of the first to arrive it doesn't take long, the qualifying person needs to be with you though as they have to take a photo using an iPad. The whole process should only take 5-10 minutes, your other party members could go into the shops to pass the time or just admire and savour their surroundings. I am sure they will understand.

just remember that you need to have the park tickets of everyone in your group and I have been asked to have the person with me a few times. With a party of 20 you may not have everyone added to the DAS and there might be time you will need to split up.

Since they started linking the DAS electronically to the Magicband or ticket, you will need the person the DAS is being requested for, their Magicband or ticket PLUS the Magicbands or tickets of the other members of your group that you want linked to the DASholder.
The CM at Guest Relations will ask a few questions about the person's needs. If they qualify for DAS, a picture of the person will be taken with an iPad and DAS will be entered onto their Magicband or park ticket.
Then, other members of your group will have their Magicbands or tickets linked to the DAS holder's. They don't necessarily need to be there, but you will need their Magicbands/tickets, so most people find it easier to just have the people present. It's also possible you may be asked to have the rest of the party present - some people have reported the Magicbands were enough and others were asked to have the other members present.

It's VERY unlikely that a whole group of 20 will be linked - the usual number for DAS is no more than 6 (5 plus the person with a disability). So, you will need to decide which people will be linked.
You can always ask for the whole group, just be aware you will likely be told no.
No matter how many are linked, there will be times when you need to divide into smaller groups of no more then 6. This is usually because of seating.

You can find more information in the WDW DAS thread locked near the top of this board. Only the first post in that thread is kept up to date. The rest is from just before and just after DAS was started.

Sorry, I should have stressed there are only 4 or 5 in our party each year, we have our tickets linked to our magic bands and we are all linked through MDE as a party. I didn't think you could have 20 on but I assumed the person asking already knew this.
