Conflicting information about upgrading Annual Pass to the new AP

I saw buried in another thread someone mention that you can upgrade an existing AP to the new AP that just came out. For us this would be cheaper than paying $169 for Memory Maker on our next trip. I looked it up on the Disney website and it said:

"Yes. If you are interested in upgrading your pass more than 60 days before it expires, visit any Walt Disney World theme park ticket window orGuest Relations location and they will walk you through your options."

Which sounds to me like you need to have more than 60 days left. I will be in my last 30 days by the time we get to WDW. So I called and the person I spoke to at Disney said that I could still do it even at 30 days and that the amount would be prorated. I asked her if the photopass benefit would start immediately and she said yes.

So now I'm torn. Since you have to do it in person I have to wait until I get there. If I get there and can't do it because I'm in my 60 day window I would then have to pay $199 instead of $169 for Memory Maker to get it for the entire trip or pay $169 and miss pictures from our first 3 days. However, if they prorate it I would be paying far less - plus we'd only have to upgrade one annual pass to get the photos (there's only 2 of us and we're always together). Right now I'm inclined to wait and take my chances and maybe just skip Memory Maker if they can't upgrade my pass.

Has anyone tried to upgrade their pass to this new one with less than 60 days left on it?

You can upgrade a former pass type to a new pass type at any time before it expires, but it won't be prorated. I did it yesterday for someone with only 2 weeks left on a former Weekday Select pass, who was renewing, but wanted the new benefits for the remaining 2 weeks of his former pass.

I decided to call Disney again just to see if I could get 2 of the same answer and of course it was different but she did confirm I can upgrade it at any time not just in the last 60 days and just like the poster above said, it won't be pro-rated but instead will be the full amount of the difference between the two passes. For me even if that's $100, it's still cheaper than $169 for Memory Maker.

For me I'm going to take the chance. If I can't upgrade it then I will just skip MM this trip and save myself some money. :-)

That's what I'm going to do. We go in Feb (adult only 3 night) and June (9 night-whole family).
I wasn't going to get Memory Maker for those as I already had it on our trip this last June. For $100 to include two trips, I'm going to at least try.

That statement is the correct information for upgrading APs any time during their active year.

Me too! We are going in Nov then again in Feb and our passes expire at the end of our Feb trip. But if I pay the difference in Nov I can get MM for both trips for less than 1 MM. :)

Would that be considered an "upgrade"? Going from a regular non-resident AP to whatever the equivalent of that is now?

I upgraded my pass for the same reason - I have out-of-state family visiting for a week in November and we had already planned on buying memory maker. It was cheaper for my family to have one person upgrade now than to pay for MM. I went from a FL resident pass with water parks (don't remember the name of that pass) to the Platinum Plus pass for about $75. The rest of my family are waiting to upgrade when they have to renew next October.

Does anyone know the cost of upgrading a current AP to the new AP (not the one with water parks included)? I have a regular AP (not DVC or FL resident). Is it about $80? If so, that's a steal for MM for the remainder of my AP.
