Confirmation gift?

My nephew has his confirmation this week. How much money should I put in the card as a gift? Anyone know what the standard is?

I don't think there is a "standard" really- I usually put a 50 dollar bill in a card for communion or confirmations.

In 2017, I think a 50 is appropriate.

$50 seems reasonable these days. I remember back in the Stone Age I mostly got cards with $5, and was beyond thrilled when one uncle gave me $10.

I could be wrong, but when I was confirmed in Nixon's first term, an album cost $3.99 and a comic book was 15 cents.

Assuming you're close to him, $50 is appropriate. But if that's a stretch for you, I don't think $20 would be at all inappropriate. It's a special occasion, but at least in my family not one of the big gift-giving occasions.

I usually go with $100 here.

Nothing is standard. Some will say 10 and some will say 200, especially if they have to cover their plate at a luncheon.

My nephew is making his first communion this spring and I will go between 25 and 50 depending on what is in the checkbook that week.

I agree $50 - $100 and remember your setting the standard if this is the first confirmation in your family ... as in what goes around, comes around.

$100 from God Parents that are in a good position is very reasonable.

We are all very close and I gave him and his sister both $100 when they had their communions ( I'am the nieces godfather). The communions seemed like a bigger deal too me, they had parties thrown for them and a lot of invitees, for this close family only are going out to dinner in the middle of the week.

I think $50 is good. I give my nieces and nephews $100 for graduation so I wouldn't do the same for a confirmation.

That's when I was confirmed and those prices sound right. I really didn't buy comic books, but I think Tiger Beat and 16 were about 35 cents.

It is really up to you.

For me, $50 seems high. Unless you are the sponsor or Godparent. But it is up to you.

If it's anything like wedding gifts, calculate an average and then if you live in New Jersey or New York, x it by 100.
