My 14 yo daughter has been invited to a confirmation party for one of her closest friends. We are at a loss as to what she can give as a gift. We would like it to be something reasonably priced but meaningful. When we have given confirmation gifts as a family we have done either savings bonds or money but don't feel like those are appropriate for a young girl to give a friend. Thank you for any suggestions :)

I remember getting a Chicken Soup for Teens book from one of my cousins at my Confirmation. I passed it on to member of my youth group when I was a youth leader.

If you share her faith, you may want to see what a you can find at a Christian book store. Most have a variety of items with Bible verses or Christian symbols on them - mugs, water bottles, fleece blankets - along with books, cross necklaces, bookmarks, etc. I seem to remember even seeing flip flops with verses on them!

When our kids were in Confirmation and I was a teacher/guide, I went with the fleece blankets. When buying for 10+ confirmands, these were an economical choice. I was able to get them in fun colors and the kids seemed to really like them. I know of at least a few that even went off to college with their owners! :)

If you don't share her faith and would feel awkward giving her such an item, I would suggest checking out a Hallmark store. I would think the staff there would be able to help you find an appropriate gift.

My daughters friends are all making their confirmations next month- she is invited to a couple parties and we are giving each one 50.00 in a card.

Hmmmmmm
well at Burlingtons dept store they had some really pretty necklaces that were in gold or silver tone that had charms hanging on them...some had a tag that said faith, and then a bed dangling and another charm...others said Believe and some beads etc...they were so pretty and so perfect for older confirmation age girls.....( i think they were like 20.)
Or a great journal and pen ...................
or a gift card to a place they like to shop> Not necessarily religious but the kids like that.............

Hope this helped a bit.............

LOL - I enjoy weird typos. This one had me puzzled for a few seconds!;)

well if you have time to order online you may find something here: http://www.monasterygreetings.com/

i came across this in a holiday gift giving article and i think it is a nice way to share faith with others without having to give a bookmark with a cross on it.

i also like the chicken soup for the teenage soul or other uplifting book. i had one of those as a teen and enjoyed it.

otherwise maybe just anything you would give a girl that age. she will probably gets lots of cash and religious trinkets so she may like something for her. i knew when i was a teenager a giftcard to the movies or applebees was always awesome b/c it let me have a free night out on the town with friends.

Usually its money but other gifts would be a bible, necklace with cross. DD got a cute musical ceramic figuring from Hallmark. I think its an angel. Picture frame (religious) to put confirmation picture in and a few toys. Mojority of the gift were money.

We usually give out money but we also started going to Things to remember and get a nice musical religous snowglobe and personalize it with
name, event and date.

Since its a friend I think you could go with an inexpensive sliver necklace or bracelet with cross, musical figurine or snowglobe at hallmark those can cost under $15 or a picture frame $10 khols on sale or small photo album at khols , framed poem about confitmation

Thank you all for the suggestions :) Since my daughter was paying for the gift out of her own money, we wanted to keep it to a reasonable amount. She did not feel comfortable giving money to a friend. She ended up buying a silver cross on a chain from Piercing Pagoda in the mall and hit a very good sale. Also, while buying cards at Dollar Tree, we found a copy of A Taste of Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul which she also picked up.
Thanks again for all the ideas!

the popular one when i was younger saw a st.christopher either pin or necklace. google it for info.

I would stick with getting the Chicken Soup book and a card with some $$$ in it.

Re: Religious Items. Okay, just because this child is making her confirmation doesn't mean she's necessarily 'religious' or would want to wear a religious pendant or pin or have a Bible or a mug, cup, blanket with some religious thing on it. I would steer very clear of that. It could very well end up in a donation pile or tucked in the way, way back of a closet.

Question: Why is it that when a Jewish child makes their Bar/Bat Mitzvah, they get hundreds of $$$ per gift but when a Christian child makes their Confirmation, they get gifts like books, low end jewelry, $25-$50, etc?? A Bar/Bat Mitvah and a Confirmation are basically the same thing -- just a different ritual for the event. I never did understand why the gifts/party on one are so lavish and the other are plain.

I agree--we were with a few of my daughters friends today and I asked them if for their confirmation any of them would want to get rosary beads, a bible or a cross necklace and they all said no way they wouldn't use/wear any of that. I will stick with giving the money!
