Conference in Austin, TX...tell me about Austin!

Hi all,

I have a conference that I'm going to attend in Austin, TX in November. DH is going to go with me for a bit of downtime. So, can anyone tell me what the "don't miss" things are in Austin?

If you dine at the TGI Fridays downtown, at the Radisson hotel I believe, you can see the bats. That's what we always do. Beats the heck out of standing on the bridge with the crowd waiting on them!

I'd also drive the 30 miles south to hit one of the best outlet malls - in San Marcos. It's an easy drive, IMO, and the shopping is fantastic.

A lot has already been listed here.

I will only add gorgeous area lakes and caverns if you like that sort of thing. New Braunfels isn't far so you might want to search for area attractions there too. I personally like Gruene, a tiny old town now a part of New Braunfels.
