My sister has been going thru chemo and radiation for breast cancer since last May. Her radiation ends the second week in March and my husband, mother and I are treating her to a week in California so she can get away from hospitals, needles, etc. and we would like to rent a condo on or near (less than a mile) from the ocean. Are there any reliable sites I could go to that aren't too expensive? We would need a two-bedroom condo that sleeps at least 5 because her 9 year old son is coming too. It would only be for 5 nights but if it isn't too expensive, I would be willing to rent it for 7 nights, if it's required.

I really appreciate any help you can give me. I've been trying to find something reasonable but I'm not sure if the sites I'm using are good ones or not. Any recommendations?

Thanks again,
Sue

Hi Sue,

I don't know of weekly condo rentals in San Diego. Can you let me know what sites you are using and I can do some checking for you.

I personally know an agent at Dave Stubbs Realty. I sent you a pm.

have you tried www.skyauction.com ? I know alot of people on these boards use them for condos in Orlando, and I have only read good reports about them. I am not sure if they offer anything in San Diego, but it is worth a look! :earboy2:

Yes, I've looked at their site but they don't seem to have anything in the San Diego area. Thanks for the suggestion though.

While I've been shopping for something along those lines I've found that Expedia has condos and rental properties listed at a daily rate. As for specific areas to search, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla will all have oceanfront/view rentals. Hotels.com also has rental properties.

Many regular hotels in that area will also have family suites, we stayed in one in the Mission Beach area call the Bahia Resort. It was a beautiful place and had a riverboat that cruised on the bay between it and a couple other area hotels. It was wonderful.

When I was traveling there for speech tournaments we used to stay at the La Jolla Cove Motel. Their name has changed some - but the web site is lajollacove.com and they have all sizes of rooms. It is not "on" the beach but across a small street. The great part is Scripps Park is right there and that would be a great place for her son to play. It is also easy waling distance into town - once you are there you don't have to drive anywhere - you can easily walk to lots of great shops and restaurants.

Thanks. This is great information. I'll check out these sites and see what I can come up with. I really appreciate the information.

Never mind - I found the information I was looking for. Thanks anyway.

I looked at this web site and the price for a terrace 2-bedroom suite (which is what we would need) is $426.65 AARP rate. Is that per night? Or for the full 4 days we'll be there? I thought that since you've stayed there, you would know. I've put in diffrent number of days and the prices are all different so I'm not sure how they figure it. In order to get the full price, you have to give them a CC to hold it for you and I don't want to do that just yet.

Thanks for the info.

Try Barksdaleproperties.com. My parent's friends have a condo in Oceanside that is 1 block from the beach. It is in the San Miguel phase. I don't know alot but this is the property management that they go through. Oceanside is beautiful and the train sation is just a couple of blocks away, so you can take the train further south to Carlsbad or San Diego.
I hope this helps ! It sounds like she could use a break.

Thanks. I will. Yes she could use a break. She's been a real trooper and has a positive attitude but it still a rough road to travel. I just hope nothing else happens so that we'd have to postpone it.
