Condition of OKW

I know that there's been a lot written on these boards for a while about the condition/cleanliness of OKW as well as about the recent renovations. We just completed a 2-night stay in a renovated 2BR before going out to the cruise and have the following thoughts I wanted to express about OKW:

1) The room itself, the building and from what we could tell, the resort as a whole, were in wonderful condition! Clean, with no sign of disrepair.

2) We had no problem at all with the upgrades ... nice enough to be noticed, but subtle enough to still retain that same great relaxed, comfortable OKW feeling. My teenage daughter was the first to sleep on the new pull out chair (it still had the original covering material on it) and had no complaint.

Since it seems like there's been a lot of concern and issues raised about OKW, I felt compelled to say something positive about it. From what I had been reading here, I went in to our stay with some anxiety about how it would be (we were taking another family there for their first visit, too). I'd have to say we left feeling as good about OKW as we always have about it! For disclosure purposes, we've been owners there since 1999, with stays in 97 & 98 before buying.

While I love these boards as a source of information, they sometimes can be like the newspapers ... too much negative reporting without some of the positive! Just had to report that we had another wonderful stay at OKW!

Thanks for the report Brad. We haven't been to OKW in a while and were reading some of the negative comments you referred to. It's nice to hear that it hasn't changed much.

Thanks Brad - we're planning a visit to OKW soon and I'm happy to hear the great review. OKW was the first DVC property we stayed at (on cash! lol) and we have fond memories.

I'm looking forward to a low-key trip and dinner one night at Olivia's!

I have to second what Brad said. :thumbsup2

We just left there on Friday after a 5 night stay, and our room was just as nice as I remembered it being on our previous stays there in 2002 and 2005. The pool was great, the room was immaculate, and the buildings and grounds showed no sign of disrepair. It was a beautiful stay and we will definitely be staying there again on a future trip!

Agreed. We have stayed at OKW a couple of times recently, last was a refurb'd GV. I thought the upgrades were nicely done. This resort is a winner in my book.

Love to hear some feedback on the cruise-send me a pm. We are doing our first cruise in Sept.

Jim

I agree with you there is alot of negative reporting that goes on these boards. I always take them with a grain of salt but there are too many people
out there that are worried for no reason on account of these reports.
Being a small business owner for the last 25 years I learned that you cannot
please everyone. There is that 10 percent that no matter how good something is will always complain.

I am glad you had another great time at WDW. I always do.:thumbsup2

Shshsh. Don't tell them that they may book there.

We love okw and out of 6 stays we got one room that was not clean. Funny thing is it was our first trip that we paid cash for before buying dvc

We are at OKW right now. I totally agree with you Brad. We have been owners since 1998 and I have no issues with the renovations, CM's, cleanliness or anything else.

Thanks, Brad. I agree 100% with your comments. We've also found the renovations to be fine and consistent with the theme of the resort and cleanliness has not been an issue for us either.

Great report! :)

We stayed in a renovated 1BD, HH category on March 20th. I liked the new look much better in person than the photos I had seen. I liked the new flooring. My daughter used the foldout chair and our two boys were on the sofabed. THey all slept fine.

I loved how they even changed out the colors of the fiesta ware to match the new fabrics; the pink dishes have been replaced with red and orange.

My only complaint is the blinds; others have mentioned how inconvenient they are to raise and lower-- kind of important if you have people sleeping in the living room who don't want to be up with the sun.

We stayed in a renovated 2-bedroom villa last December and were VERY happy with it.

I still chuckle about negative comments about the blinds. They take a grand total of what, 45 seconds to raise and lower?

Thank you Brad. I think the OKW renovations are beautiful. My granddaughter loved the new sleeper chair.

We stayed at OKW for the Princess Half Marathon and the resort looked get.

I wish I aged as well as OKW over the last 20 years. Looks like it is only 2-3 years old compared to 20 years.

Just had guest return from staying in an OKW villa and love loved it. We own at OKW and SSR and love both but next to BW with a BWview OKW is great. Walts first try at this and much larger room sizes.

That's good news, we love OKW, can't wait to go back

We stayed at OKW in October and this past February. We really like the renovations and found both units to be clean and comfortable as usual.

We're Vero owners but OKW is our 1st choice, always, for WDW stays.

We had same experience. We stayed 2 nights in studio, 5 in 1 bed. Both exp. were fine. DS liked pull out chair. Def. more comfortable than the pullout sofa, DD slept on that. Her comment was BWV and VWL were more comfortable. But didnt hinder her from sleeping. Only downside we exp. was move from studio to 1 bed was way longer than normal. We didint get into room til 5:20pm. Other than that, OKW was top notch. Def. looking forward to next visit, it has become a family fave!

Do you think the sleeping chair is long enough for a 6ft+ teenage boy? :upsidedow
