Concrete Countertops Question

I hear this is a "budget" choice for countertops when compared to other stone options. Anyone a DIY or know someone who did it themself? DH & I have taught ourselves many DIY home projects, but we also are not afraid to admit when something needs to be left to the professionals! Anyone have them ?? what do you think?

I don't know if it is a budget option but we were on a recent home tour and one of the homes had them and they were really nice. It was a very high end home.

There is a great kitchen forum on the Gardenweb site (www.gardenweb.com). If you search for posts on concrete countertops you will see lots of info.

Also, the photo gallery can be sorted in many ways so there are also plenty of pictures posted.

if you were to diy it would be budget. But to have it professionally done it will cost you as much if not more then any other natural stone.

They can be beautiful if done correctly. However I wouldn't call them a "budget" option. The cost for the materials is less but the labor cost is quite high because of what is involved in making them.

Around here they run about the same price as granite. I would not recommend doing them yourself. I have seen some not done quite right and not pretty.

Thanks for the feedback... I had heard they were less expensive than other stone options and from what I have read on them, it did not seem so hard but maybe We'll try just a small counter for our gararge and see how that comes out before I attempt kitchen counters! Thank you Again!

Do you have an ikea around you?
Our ikea carries concrete countertop samples (professionally done by other company), beautiful. I want one but then I saw the price and holey criminey!

Don't know anything about DIY concrete though, if you do take on the project please post your before and after pics...
