We couldn't decide where to go for steak. It was a tossup between Shula's(our personal steak favorite now) and Yachtsman. But since we were staying at the CR, we decided to try the Concourse steakhouse. We had only ate lunch there a couple of years ago and don't remember much about the meal.Well was kind of dissapointed. Not terrible but was mediocre. Our bread came out looking good and crusty but was dry like it had been in a warmer for way to long and the butter was individually wrapped and not butter but a margarine with a % of butter added spread. It just didn't fit at a steakhouse.Where's the real stuff:confused:
DW ordered the chefs special which was Caesar Salad, Smoked Prime Rib and a coffee mousse for dessert. She didn't care for the heavy smoke flavor of the rib.But I thought it was OK.The CM said it has a real mild smoke flavor but it was really strong but a good cut of meat.DD had a ribeye and baked potato with the "fake" butter.I ended up with the KC strip and it was OK but nothing like the KC strips I have had elsewhere especially in KC.It was mostly bone(a little stretch here) and a thin cut but tasty. The garlic mashed potatoes didn't have a hint of garlic or maybe I lost my tastebuds  and seemed like they had been sitting in a steam table. It was to be accompanied by a cabernet sauce, but it was nowhere to be found.Service was good but I asked for a suggestion for a bottle of wine and the CM suggested a white wine and seemed to not really know the wines all that well.On the plus side the mousse and the pear tart we ordered were excellent and so were the sauteed mushrooms. But those shouldn't have been the highlights of our meal. You do get quite a bit of overflow noise from Chef Mickey's but that was to be expected as the whole area is open. All restaurants can have an off night and maybe that was the night for us.(our 1st meal at Jiko after AKL had just opened was horrible but the last couple of times it was excellent just like the majority of people have reviewed)but I think we will choose one of the others for steak next visit.

Sorry to hear about the mediocre meal at Concouse. We are tring to decide if we want to go there?! Thanks for the review!

We were there last month and it was only okay. We had been several (don't remember exactly how many) years ago and had a great meal and service.

We've been there a few times (most recently in Sept.) and have always enjoyed it. My DW and DD's are dedicated carnivores so I assume the quality of meat was good. The service was also very good, and the prices not as steep as Shula's/Yachtsman/etc.
