I was wondering what exactly the concierge does for you on the cruise. I know they will make appointments for you for Palo and the spa and the nursery, which in and of itself may be worth it :) but I was wondering what else they do on the cruise. Is there a special lounge like there is in the resorts? Any info anyone can give me on concierge would be great. :)

There is a concierge meeting/reception early on the day you depart. I believe it was to start at 1:30 when we cruised in August. We went at 1:40 and meet with the Drazen, the concierge manager on the Wonder. They had beverages and cookies available.

Someone will sit down with you and go over all your options - dinning, spa treatments, excursions, Palos, etc. They will ask what you want to sign up for an when you want to do it. Drazen then went and made a phone call and arranged everything. We had no problem getting times we wanted for the spa and Palos.

After that, a counselor from the kids program sat down with us and discussed the kids program. We were able to register both kids right there on the spot and received our pager.

We were organized and knew what we wanted and when we wanted to do it in advance. It took us less than 30 minutes to do all of this.

Each day we would receive a nice note from the concierge staff with all our scheduled activities for the day listed along with the weather forecast.

Lastly, there was a concierge reception later in the cruise. I believe it was on either Tuesday or Wednesday on our 4 day cruise. They had beverages (yes, adult beverages) along with hot and cold appetizers. The reception was late in the afternoon and since we had early seating, we did not stay long.

There are a few other benefits I'm looking forward to.
You can pick your desired dining rotation,
full breakfast available from room service,
full menu's from the 3 dining rooms (not sure if Palo's as well) available for room service during regular dining times.

Videos available to borrow from the concierge desk.

Haven't experienced these yet!
Just what I picked up on the boards.
After feb 15 I'll let you know about any others!!!

You can pick your dining rotation??? I didn't know that. We cruised cat 1 in October and we never heard that we could pick the dining rotation. Are you sure about that?

The full breakfast is wonderful that's for sure.

Honestly though the best part of sailing concierge isn't the concierge service, it's being in those huge beautiful rooms. You'll love it!

About 30 days before your cruise, you receive a welcome letter signed "The Disney Cruise Line Concierge Team". My DW and I are on the January 19 4-day Wonder and we received ours today (a week after receiving our cruise document package)! The letter details all the concierge services and includes a number you can call for advance Palo reservations. Those services include a special check-in station at the Disney Cruise Line Terminal, a meeting on embarkation day between 12:00 and 3:30PM to reserve other options (spa treatments, etc.), full in-suite dining menus from Triton's, Parrot Cay or Animator's Palate (but no mention of Palo so I assume you have to go there), and in-room videos, board games and CDs.

The concierge letters appear not to be automatic in a cat 3. We did not receive one and from reading posts before we sailed, it appeared most in cat 3 did not receive a letter.

Some in cat 3's however, did call the number listed in the letter (the phone number was posted on this board) and were able to make advance reservations over the phone.

Movies and CD were great.

Don't forget about Castaway Cay activities that tend to book early such as parasailing. Anyone can prebook these activities in advance and if you wait until you get on board you might be out of luck, even if staying concierge.

Having cruised twice in Cat. 2 I can say we never received any type of letter nor were we able to choose our own dining rotation. However, we were able to board right after disabled passengers and didn't have to wait in the long line. Full menus (including Palos) are available as well as the full breakfast. This was very nice. We received goodies every night -- the cheese and cracker plate was awesome and we ended up ordereing each evening, got chocolate chip cookies, fruit plate, petit fours [sp?]. Our concierge team, Christina and Thierry, were awesome. They checked in on us every day to make sure everything was going well. They gave us a great book about the making of the Disney Magic. Our three boys received arcade cards twice during the cruise. The video library was nice. Good selection to choose from. There was a concierge party for all concierge guests when we left St. Thomas. We did not, however, use Concierge to make our ressies. We found during our first cruise that Concierge only had select times for the spa, Palos, etc. We decided to make our own ressies and got the date and time we wanted quite easily. HTH
