I have stayed at AKL before the Villas were built so I already know I like it there. We were thinking about booking a Concierge Villa. We saw it under the room options. Has anyone else done this? Is it worth it? What "extras" do you get for booking Concierge? Any information is greatly appreciated!

we tried and weren't able to get it. But you get access to the conceirge lounge which has different food, snacks and drinks throughout the day. You also get to do 2 safari's that I have heard wonderful things about, but is only available if you are staying conceirge.
Not sure when you are planning on going but it is closed for renovation or whatever for pretty much all of Oct

Just to clarify the previous post, here are safaris that open only to concierge level guests, but they are pricey.

Concierge includes daily housekeeping, turn down service, and access to the concierge lounge area with snack and beverage offerings.

Thanks Chuck! It might be worth it just for the daily housekeeping but I also like the idea of the private lounge too. :thumbsup2

What is closed for renovation in Oct??? Just curious is all:lmao:

not sure, we wanted to do it in Oct but they were already booked. We had a wait list but decided to just cancel because of having to bank points prior to end of wait list we just didn't want to deal with complexity. Anyway, I read on the boards somewhere that the concierge level was going to be closed and that all those people who had it booked were being moved. Some were getting moved to SSR and were pretty upset about it. Which, made me glad that we decided to cancel our wait list and just stick with our current AK rooms. Can't remember which board I read about it on though.

That may have been an old thread from last year. I have a reservation for Oct 2010 and have not heard of the lounge closing.

oh ok, sorry about the confusion. like i said it was something i had read, i didn't have any first hand knowledge about it.

Everyone should experience Concierge at least once. It does make you feel special, :goodvibes the snacks are nice and as PP you get access to the Safari Tour.

On the down side, the Savanna views from the Concierge rooms are the worst on property.

There is a total of five two-bedroom lockoff villas - three with a partially blocked savanna view and two with a pool view. At least of of these is handicapped accessible. If you don't have points at AKV, it is difficult to get these. Most members who do get them book them exactly at 11 months out. These are all located on the sixth floor of Jambo House.

The Sunrise Safari is really rather neat. Depending on what time sunrise occurs, the safari will leave shortly before that and you will tour the AK safari at a slower pace, with an expert guide giving you all sorts of info on the animals. Then you finish up with a buffet breakfast at AK which is included in the cost of the safari. You must be an AKV/AKL concierge guest to book this.

We added on at AKV just to book a concierge stay once a year, we love it. I do call at opening on the 11 day mark and luckily this year I got a studio no problem. Last year I had to waitlist and it came through. So I can imagine its very hard to get without 11 month booking priority. :confused3

I booked Dec 10-17 for 2010 at exactly 9 am and exactly 11 months prior. It is very hard to get if you don't own at AKLV but certainly not impossible, esp. if you are flexible with dates. It's not what it used to be (AKL concierge) which I lament all the time but still a wonderful experience.---Kathy

Why is that? I want an awesome view AND concierge but everyone is saying that I can't get both.

The view is obscured by the roof that hangs down and there are large support beams. In addition the animals that are on stage in this area are some birds and a big bull of some kind. As with the other areas, the animals mostly hang out when food is put out for them, which is only a couple of times each day.

I am surprised to see that a Deluxe Studio Jambo CL is still available through CRO for Dec 24th 2010 through to the 1st of Jan:confused3 :confused3 With folk mentioning how hard this is to book i wonder how this is available through CRO :confused3 :confused3 Unless of course a member has traded out there points for something else?

I am just curious tis all

The AKV Concierge rooms are on the 6th floor directly above the Sunset Savanna viewing area. The rooms face an alcove of the Sunset Savanna so you have a limited view of the savanna. Animals do come into that area especially at feeding time but your room is up so high that your view is partially blocked by the tree tops. When we stayed there, there were times when a giraffe was eating from the feeding station near our room but we couldn't see him due to the trees.

If you want concierge and an awesome view, book an AKL "Standard Concierge" hotel room. I believe they put those guests on the 4th floor and you are not limited to the Sunset Savanna alcove area. The downside is that you wouldn't be on the same floor as the Concierge Lounge. You would have to take the stairs or elevator up to the 6th floor in addition to the walk from wherever your room was. And of course you would have to pay cash for the room since you cannot book AKL hotel rooms using points.

Thank you so much for the answer. We'll skip the concierge and grab some snacks at either the grocery store or their market to put in our fridge.

My goal when posting is to present a eyes wide open prospective even when it isn't popular.

Everyone posts how wonderful a Savanna view is. In reality you may see a few animals and you my only see one. There are several factors that determine your success rate. We find that going to the viewing areas allows us to see more animals.

If you book a room expecting to be in the middle of a heard of animals you will be really disappointed. If you book hoping to see a couple, and you see more, it's a much better feeling. :cloud9:
