Concierge Question

I just got a quote from AAA and the agent told me on the one bedroom suite that we booked for my in-laws in concierge level but it had to be added at check in for $175.00 a night.

I am not particularly concerned about the price. My questions are:
  • We are cheeking in on December 31st, could the concierge get too full and they not be allowed to 'upgrade'.
  • Is the price dependent on the type of room? In other words, would the rate be the same for a regular room, one bedroom or two bedroom suite?

Thanks

We've never booked a concierge room with aaa, but i have booked a concierge room with central reservations and had no issues. I'd call your aaa agent again and ask to add concierge now.

If you wait til your inlaws check in dec 31st, there is a great likely hood that concierge would already be full (but with our economy the way it is now, that may change). In the past, people have requested concierge upon check in only to find out that it was already full.

Price is a flat-rate. Room type or # of guests in the room do not matter.

To add CL it's about the price you stated IF you're in a suite, so it would be about an extra 175 a night. The price is different to just book CL room. Before any type of AP specials it was 400 a night for DLH, and up given the time you're visiting. I inquired about just adding on CL a couple of days ago, but was told by a couple of different CM that it could not be added like that to a reg room only suites for the extra cost.

That must be a new thing as we had a regular room overlooking the pool when we had concierge in oct '07. We had one of those special AP rates when we went. Except for those special AP rates for concierge, I always thought concierge was a flat rate depending on your hotel. If I remember correctly, it was $125 for PPH, $150 for DLH, and $175 for GCH a couple of years ago.

Yeah I thought so also, but got told that was wrong, and the flat extra charge for CL was for suite bookings. Before the AP rate got extended Wed she checked and it was 400 a night for a reg CL room not a suite, even with ap rate it's still 300 a night reg CL room.

So if I am understanding correctly, you can book a concierge level 'regular' room and have the concierge amenities already included in the price you pay. If you book a suite you have to pay extra ($175.00 per night is the consensus) to get the amenities. If this is correct...WHY?:confused3 I don't get it, does anyone have any inkling as to the reasoning?

Thanks

According to a former CM who posted about this once, concierge used to be included automatically when you booked a suite. However, since the number of suites near the concierge lounge was limited, they were getting a lot of complaints from people whose suites were in different buildings or even different floors. Everyone wanted to be near the lounge (of course) and it got so frustrating for the CMs that the resort simply discontinued the concierge perk and made it so you had to pay extra to get it with a suite.

If you did not realize you were getting concierge as part of your suite, one would think you'd be happy to find out you have it rather than grousing about being too far from the lounge.

Yes that's correct. It is an extra charge per night ON TOP of the price you're already paying for the suite. So yes 175 extra a night not sure why, but it is what they feel the service is worth I suppose. If you wont use that much to justify it I would just arrange special in room amenities each night. Like gift baskets, wine and cheese, cookies and milk, mickey krispie treats and milk, tuxedo strawberries. Even doing surprises like those you get the magic without the extra 175 CL add on.

OK I get the why...well, understand the reasoning at least. The next question becomes what do I should I note in their reservation to get a suite close to the lounge?

Also, we are seriously considering changing their one bedroom suite to a two bedroom so that we can have that many more folks eligible for the concierge amenities and since I am presuming that two bedroom suite is a one bedroom with a connecting regular room (is that a correct presumption?) will that impede them getting a suite close to the lounge?

Thanks for your help on this, it is much appreciated :goodvibes

The first 2 room we did for 5 of us is a master with king, sitting area, wet bar, and then you go out of the suite into a hall which it's doored to the connecting which was a 2 queen so yes it's mainly connecting. Now you said money is not a concern you can book a suite on the floor of the lounge just steps from it. The pirates suite, or mickey penthouse. Both hugely themed and is 1 enclosed suite not connected rooms they are 2 bedrooms GORGEOUS, but also will run you 3000 a night.

Well, I don't know the answer to your questions--sorry!! I wish they could guarantee rooms, but they just don't do it. The best you can do is call several times to make sure your request is noted. I have 2 concierge rooms reserved for next month (a suite was considerably more expensive!) and they have me down as requesting rooms as close to the lounge as possible. I am going with my kids, sister, and my mom, who is 77 and has very limited mobility. I hope that is sufficient reason for them to honor my request, as she is not up to going into the parks all day with 3 little kids. I got concierge specifically so she would have a nice place to hang out with one of us while the rest are in the park. Well, and the food and beverages are nice, too! But I'd like it to be convenient for her to get to by herself if need be. I've heard that if you call the morning of your arrival and remind them of your request, it helps.

Anyway, here is a link to floorplans for the DLH suites: http://disneylandmeetings.disney.go.com/dlm/en_US/index?id=RegalSuitePage

When we went to WDW, we had access to the Concierge Lounge, but were not near the lounge. We actually appreciated being a little further away as there was so much foot traffic and noise near the lounge at certain times of the day.

Just a perspective that may not have been considered. Of course it's a different story is walking / mobility is an issue. :goodvibes

Ah, good point!

In the DLH, the concierge lounge is reached via an outside glass elevator, which would NOT be something my mom would like!! Hopefully we'll be able to get to the lounge without the glass elevator. I would think if you're staying on that floor or the one below you could just go from your room to the lounge? I don't really know how it works.

Dizme we were on the 10th floor right by the elevators just jumped in and were the in 30 seconds or less. I like CL, and since you will be doing a lot more resort breaks it is a better deal. DD and I did it and found us trying to make sure we were there during the different times just to be able to do the b-fast, wine and cheese, and the sweet dreams time. I would do it again maybe when resort time is more into the plan.

We loved the Concierge room last February when we were there we were in a two bedroom suite, but we were in the tower next to the one where the CL is located. We were told there were no two bedroom suites in that tower, just one bedroom and the Regal suites. It was awesome to have the lounge available, but didn't use it near enough to be worth the money. If we ever do a resort again (it's actually much quicker to get to the parks from the hotels across the street, I've learned the hard way), we will do the extra perks like room service and baskets and such instead, and bring bottles of water, and what-not.

But, it's all about preference.
