Having a sudden dilemma (already booked but concierge rooms are still available) of whether we should upgrade.

Any/all opinions are very welcome.

Difference in cost is £1700 (approx. $2500) for 4 nights.

That's only a bit more than $600 per night. I think you should do it.

At the risk of sounding really stupid, other than a nicer looking cabin, WHAT are we actually getting extra? Not really understanding that is partly why I cannot decide!

This link is a primer. a dedicated guest services team is part of it. People report other perks as well like if they dropped their phone in the sink, the concierge team would provide them a rice bucket to try and pull the moisture out to before they got off. They can also handle just about any request and you also get other fun things like the ability to order Main Dining Room meals in your suite (though it is limited to certain categories in concierge). For me personally, who has not sailed concierge, it would be an additional luxury purchase that we would not see the value from. We do not want a cabana at castaway cay, so them booking it for us does no good, and there are plenty of opportunities to make reservations at Palo and Remy. However the lounge and sun deck would be be nice perks especially since your rooms are right there.

Agree with Quellman; the lounge, Sun deck for us are a big deal. Plus the Concierge hosts are wonderful & have gone well above & beyond a couple of times with some family related things. Also the Coffee/Cappuccino machine is hard to beat. There are other things of course, but while it may not be worth it for others, it is for us.

Is the upgrade to a Cat V or a Cat T and from what stateroom level currently?

We did the Dream 4 night in a Cat T connecting Cat V. If the upgrade is to a Cat V, I would probably not do the upgrade for a 4 night cruise unless you really will use the concierge facilities. It the upgrade is to a Cat T, I might consider it, but only if I knew we would use the stateroom on that cruise.

When I booked my Cat T/Cat V combo, the entire upgrade was only about $800 more than the 2 Cat 4Bs I had booked so it made a lot of sense to book. I was traveling with my parents and sister and knew we would use the extra space a Cat T gave. We basically used the main space of the Cat T as the living room and the Cat V as a second bedroom. My parents spent a lot of time in the room and on the balcony to make it worth our money. My dad and I also visited the lounge frequently during the cruise.

Although I enjoyed concierge, I would have to consider whether or not to book concierge again based on the people in my traveling party for a 3 or 4 night. There are some that the concierge space would be wasted on unless the price was really good, but others I might be willing to pay more since they would spend more time in the stateroom and use the concierge services.

After enjoying our first concierge sailing we went back and upgraded all of our future reservations to concierge. Its a lot of little things that add up for us that makes the cost justification. With the enhancements to the concierge sundeck (hot tub and misters) on the Dream that has become a HUGE plus. On our Halloween cruise we spent some of almost every day up on the sundeck hot tub. There was only one time we saw other people there and they left right when we arrived. We are already counting down the days to our christmas sailing on the Dream.

Either way enjoy your cruise!

I keep flip-flopping. Haven't done it. Everytime I think I am going to, I can't justify the cost to the perks.

We did it once to try it. Now we ONLY want to do it! So just keep that in mind!!! We loved loved loved it.

We did our first cruise in concierge and our second in a regular stateroom. We'll only sail concierge from now on.

Are kids allowed in the lounge and sun deck? This may be the tipping point, as I won't leave them so all the benefits would be worthless to us if they aren't.

We currently have a 4A family oceanview veranda.

As a matter of fact they have a TV in the lounge looping Disney cartoons (or at least every time we were in the lounge) and they have special Disney character meet and greets on the sun deck for the kids.

Yes. My kids love hanging out in the lounge.

I would save the money! We usually book cat 4 cabins and have had great cruises. But I would not turn down a free upgrade!

People ask these questions but provide no information about themselves. How much do you make? Do you have extra money laying around? Your house paid off? Pay off your credit cards every cycle?

Well, For perspective for you...we did a 15 night West Bound Panama Canal Cruise last May for less $1,000 more USD than that ($3200) total for 3 people in an oceanview room. Would I rather have a special sundeck and a few other perks for 4 nights or go on an extra 15 night DCL cruise...I'd save my money and go on the extra cruise...but thats just how I travel.

I've done concierge and wasn't impressed. The simple things I asked for they didn't come through. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and got a magical moments certificate. I don't think we even got buttons. We don't drink a lot and the sun deck didn't have any shade. It was nice to do once but I won't do it again.
