We may splurge on our next vacation and book concierge - Poly or BC. Our vacation will be in 2 or 3 years so we have time to save. What are the pros and cons of concierge? What types of foods are offered? Breakfast offerings? We probably wouldn't be around for any other meals except maybe a snack in the evening. Any alcoholic beverages available? I know this is a weird question but I tried on more then one occasion to get a tropical drink while at the Poly but it was difficult w/kids to leave Tokelau and then venture over to the pool bar. I finally had tried a Pina Colava at the pool bar on our last night which I had to drink very quickly as DH was getting frustrated watching DS8, DD5 & DD2 in the pool. I would have loved a drink to relax me at the end of the day & know the kids were contained :rotfl2: !

In your opinion, is concierge worth it? I know this is subjective but I'm still curious. Thanks for any info.

Hi ~ do not have the answer to your questions (tho would like to know too), but just wanted to say your sweet Newfie Baxter was beautiful! I am so sorry he's not with you...they are such wonderful furbabies. {{hug}}

Thank you. Baxter was beautiful and simply wonderful. I miss him alot. Thanks for the reply - you folks here on the dis are just great. I've rec'd more support here then anywhere.

Currently, the club lounges offer wine/beer from 5pm - 7pm along with a few appetizers, cheese & crackers, veggies & dip. From 8pm - 10pm, there's an assortment of cordials and some bite size desserts. From 7am - 10am, they do have a continental breakfast with cold cereal, fruit, yogurt, bagels, donuts, croissants. It's hard to know if that will continue to be offered in 2 or 3 years. We've seen a number of downgrades happen in the club lounge over the past 10 years, so it's probably something you want to keep an eye on as your booking window gets closer.

Thanks for the info - I'll keep a close eye on it. Much appreciated!

each concierge lounge is different in terms of what food/drinks it offers.

as to whether it's worth it.....probably not if you make the dollar value calculation of the food - especially if you're on the dining plan..

so it probably depends on the family.

we're a family of four, so back in the days when we stayed in one room, it was a better value....we now stay in two rooms, so there's no way we could justify it in terms of dollar value...

we eat breakfast in the lounge every morning. The lounge offers exactly what we would eat - cereal, bagels/cream cheese, toast, fresh fruit, juice, coffee...

some of the lounges have small bottles of water that you can take with you. So we would take those with us to the park....but many of the lounges don't (they only have bottled water in big bottles - so that you can drink water in the lounge)..

some of the lounges have soft drinks always available in a fridge - in other lounges you have to ask the CM for a soft drink....which can be annoying....
(and you have to know that you can ask for them)..

for evening cocktail hour, some of the lounges offer more kid friendly food than others do....(the GF tends to be kid unfriendly in its food offerings for example)...

you can't really call what is offered in the lounges, "meals"...only breakfast could be termed a meal...the rest of the day, it's just snacks...(although the WL offers a bit more hearty food than the other lounges)..

Years ago, with an AP rate discount, conceirge was a great splurge and treat. Now, its not worth the extra money. Offerings are cut down, asking for drinks a nusiance and in the regular rooms turn down service is available. Rooms were no bigger and mousekeeping is mousekeeping, a hit and miss deal.

We decided long ago when the prices rose and service went down to just stay standard room, take the savings from not staying conceirge and stay longer. We make a grocery stop and have a better selection in our room then conceirge along with libations, we prefer this route more, no picked over treats, noisy lounge and its always available, ha ha.

I noticed that club level offerings in WL tended to repeat often. Seems like we had some kind of pork dish in the evening offering more than I would have liked. That said, I don't eat much, so it served as my dinner, along with the desserts that followed later!
Am hoping that the GF offerings will knock my socks off, but not getting my hopes TOO high!

A few years ago, all the lounges switched over to the large glass bottles of water.

Breakfast is pretty similar across all levels, the AKL & GF offer an afternoon tea that no one else does, the evening appetizers come from the restaurants within that resort and are usually appropriately "themed" ie (more fish items at the YC/BC, Asian style offerings at the the Poly).

for evening cocktail hour, some of the lounges offer more kid friendly food than others do....(the GF tends to be kid unfriendly in its food offerings for example)...
They are a bit more "gourmet" than other locations, but there is a kids station with mini hot dogs, chicken nuggets, etc.

I'd also have to rank the Poly up there as offering what may be termed more substantial evening appetizers. They have items like make your own pork sandwiches, spring rolls, sushi night, etc. I agree, not really anything that you could fill up on every night, but if you have a late or heavy lunch, you could probably just make a dinner in the club lounge.

We've stayed at both Poly and BC Club levels and found the BC lounge very disappointing compared with the Poly one.

Tammi I was just wondering what did you mean by this statement?

Are you saying they offer special kind of tea's that are not the standard kind, because my Mom has got tea from the Atrium Club which we have not seen anywhere else in WDW.

They do offer beer during the day. You just need to ask. They allow two beers per person per request. After a day at the parks we usually relax with a few beers on our balcony before dinner.

We were upgraded from standard to conceirge in May at BC. I have to say, it was nice, but not sure I would pay for it.

We used the lounge in the morning for breakfast and in the afternoon for a light snack and drinks. Turn down service was always while the kids were napping or we were in the middle of showering for dinner. The view was unbelievable, but the room below us would have had a similar one.

We never used the staff to make reservations or change anything. I had already done that and it was just as easy for me to call and make changes.

I'm not sure about the other deluxes but BC does have someone come to your lounge chair and you can order a drink and they bring it to you. So no having to worry about who's watching the kids. That was great, but had nothing to do with conceirge.

So it was a nice upgrade and I'd take it again and enjoy it, but don't think I'd pay for it.

Normally, most of the lounges have afternoon snacks out from 11am - 4pm. At the GF and AKL, they do it a bit differently. From 11am - 1:30pm they have their light snack offering and then clear that away. From 2pm - 4pm, they set out something like a traditional english tea service. At the GF, it comes with warm scones and devonshire creme, as well as sometimes a strawberry trifle, cookie assortment and brownies. Hope that makes better sense.

Oh now I understand what you meant by a service the other lounges do not offer.

When we stayed at Grand Californian at Disneyland, we were told that alcohol could not be removed from the lounge. Are you able to take a beer back to your room at all CL lounges at WDW, or does it depend on the resort?

CR Resort Fan 4 Life: Do you have a menu with CL offerings for GF and AKL? The Poly selection looks fabulous :thumbsup2 .

Ever since the Atrium Club has become full Concierge service, my parents and I have always brought Beer back to our room without any problems or the Cast Members saying a thing.

Sorry but I don't have any menus for the Grand Floridian or Animal Kingdom Lodge Club Levels.

We did the same from the Old Faithful Club at the WL especially if it was near the close of service time. In fact, one of the CMs encouraged us to do this one time when seeing us arrive hot and thirsty after an afternoon in the parks. Beers were kept in a cooler for taking if I remember correctly from October '06.

Wow - thanks for all the opinons and info. I guess we'll just have to decide - it would be probably the Poly as I'm not sure I dare try any other resorts. It is alot of money to spend for a few extras. I know concierge services includes more then food so I thats some benefit as well. It just seems so convenient to be able to go to the lounge for a snack vs walking to GCH. I must say staying at the Poly I remember saying to myself while watching EWP and fireworks that you don't have to be in the Hawaii longhouse to get this awesome view. All you have to do is go to the beach which we were already at the pool swimming anyways. That being said - it would be nice to be able to view them in our pjs. Thanks again.

it probably wasn't clear from my response - we enjoy concierge, but not because it can be justified from a food point of view...

about 8 years ago or so, we started staying concierge level in any hotel where it's available...
our little quirk..

as for WDW - i like staying in concierge at the GF, mainly because i enjoy staying in the main building (the RPC)...

actually, now that i think about it, the GF CMs were exceptionally good in advance of our recent stays...
the last two times we stayed at the RPC, they contacted us in advance to find out when we would arrive and had our rooms ready for us (even though we were arriving in the morning, many hours before check in time).
I mentioned that at the time, and the CM said, "just tell me when you're coming and the rooms will be ready"..
that was excellent!!...now it's coming back to me...
and the same CM, i don't know his name, was able to get us two very difficult reservations that i hadn't been able to get..

but even without that, we would stay there....

and not for the food...just to stay in the main building..

by the way, the snack bar (gasparillo) at the GF is open 24 hours a day and i love going in there.....so i could easily do without the GF concierge lounge...(since we don't drink alcohol)...
