Hi folks...just back from our weekend stay at the Whitehall Hotel in Chicago for our 20th anniversary.

I know people talk about how using your points outside DVC isn't the best deal, but I must say we were VERY pleased with our stay and the points it used.

The boutique hotel was LOVELY. We had a top floor room with a four poster bed and the most amzing sheets, pillows and duvet cover, and a bay window because we chose the Pinnacle level room. This was more points (43 a night as opposed to 35) but came with some great amenities, including a continental breakfast each morning in our room (the real prices of it was a CRAZY $43 a day just for coffee, juice and pastries for two people,)

We also got a free cocktail and appetizer each night at the bar, and because we braved Chicago in MARCH, it came with a $100 credit to apply to the bar and food tab.

We parked across the street (cheaper) and we were so centrally located, we walked most everywhere, just taking a cab to Second City and back.

So, we had two breakfasts, drinks and appetizers at the hotel, Friday night dinner at the hotel, all charged to our room.

Our hotel bill when we checked out was $26.

All in all very worth it, especially considering we had 69 points to use or lose by the end of the month.

Checking online, our room tab alone would have been over $550 for the two nights, not including all the food and drinks.

Happy Anniversary! It sounds like a great use of your points. Thank you for pointing out something we may be interested in as well.

Thank you!

We're already angling to figure out how to get back to Chicago. What a great town.

Thanks for the report and congratulations on your 20th anniversary! We'll be celebrating our 20th in May. We have a few extra points to burn this year due to borrowing and then canceling - maybe I'll look into Chicago.

So, glad to hear you liked Whitehall. We have stayed there before becoming DVC members, and felt like it is an undiscovered gem in downtown-great location! I actually got a discount through my employer or it would have been very pricey. The best beds ever and the best chocolate martini! I was excited to see that as a choice, but it does seem like a lot of points to use. So glad you enjoyed, and I know we go back someday when we have to use some points, only 3 hour drive for us and who doesn't love Chicago.:goodvibes

If you figure about $700 (room plus some of the extras) divided by 86 points, you're still looking at getting a value of over $8.00 a point.

Even taking off the exchange fees, that doesn't sound like a bad use for the points at all. Especially if you were looking at losing them!

Exactly.

We've gotten SO spoiled...it's hard to pony up cash for a room anymore. Even the last Days Inn we stayed at near Lake Michigan was 100 bucks a night!
