Concierge Collection-What is the benefit for those reorts/hotels?

With the recent info re: the Concierge Resorts dropped and added I got to wondering, maybe some of you experts can help me-

How are the resorts "compensated" for our points?

How is it decided which resorts will be considered part of the Concierge Collection?
Why are resorts "dropped" from the "Collection"?


I also thing "the HErshey Hotel" would be a fine addition to the Concierge resort collection, but the theme park aspect might exclude them.
