My family and I are going to the Poly next month and concierge sounds great but is it worth it?
What do you get?

We just returned from a 3 night stay in LV concierge room at the Polynesian. We absolutely loved it! The location of the Hawaii building is terrific- close to both pools and the GCH. Our view was amazing. The convenience of breakfast in the lounge was certainly worth it to us. We spent the last 7 nights of our trip at AKL and planned on spending our time at the Polynesian just relaxing. We were able to take advantage of the snacks during the day, the early evening service, and the cordials/desserts. If you plan to spend most of your time in the parks, concierge might not be "worth" it. Soda , water, and fresh fruit available all day long. I made most of our PS arrangements myself, but did ask concierge to make Rose and Crown dinner res and we had a fantastic patio table. I forgot my toothbrush- it was great to have one in the room!

Thanks so much for the info, it has helped tremendously!
How is the volcano pool? I have two teenage boys who are very much interested. Is there a price difference for concierge garden or lagoon view?

This is a subjective question. Primnarily you are paying for more personalized service. You check in with the concirege so you do'nt need to stand in line in the lobby.

They will take care fo your dining and recreation reservations in advance, and my experience is that when I'm booked through concierge I get better tables.

There are snacks in the concierge lounge, but it is NOT enough to make a meal out of, except for breakfast.

You get nighly turn down service.

I've also found that the concirege rooms are often in better condition then the other rooms.

My 14 year old son loved the volcano pool slide. We found that the pool tended to get very crowded in the afternoon so we sometimes used the quiet pool (which actually felt cooler temp.) The rate is higher for LV than GV. I think that if you will be spending much time at the resort, concierge will definately be worth it with two teenage boys! They will love the food in the lounge and you will have a refrigerator in your room as well. My son thought the pasta one night was the best he'd ever eaten( and he had three plates full!) and my daughter(18) was in fruit and cheese heaven.

Just returned from 8 nights at the Polynesian garden view concierge and I agree with everything BuzzMe has to say. It was worth every penny to me. We saved loads of money on drinks and had to eat fewer meals out because of the concierge lounge offerings. We actually went home with money still in our pockets, which has never happened with us before. We will most definitely do it again. The only difference is next time I will stay lagoon view concierge.

I have stayed 3x and it is worth it for us--we were there July 12 and 13--the only downside is the building needs the future rehab it is getting. It is clean, but dark and drab. Our view was wonderful for our first LV, but I don't know if I'd do it again--the day I had planned on enjoying the beach view it rained all day. I think GV is good enough. We did eat 3 meals there and saved a ton of $$ on water as well.

I stayed in the Poly lagoon view concierge last December, and it was great. The concierge staff was very friendly and helped rearrange many of our priority seatings at the last minute. To me it was definitely worth it. When you stay concierge you get bathrobes in the room, a complimentary mini-fridge, a staff to help you get priority seatings etc., and complimentary hors devours in the concierge lounge. The food was excellent while we were there--breakfast with different cereals, pastries, breads, etc, cookies and drinks during the afternoon, heavy hors devours in the evening, and desserts (YUM!) at night. When you stay concierge (at any resort), any priority seatings made by the concierge staff have a note on them saying you're a concierge guest (I'm not sure if this gets you anything special at the restaurants, but it couldn't hurt). Hope this helps! :D

Thanks you so much everyone for all of your opinions. I have learned so much from all of you and I think I will call my travel agent and find out what the cost will now be to upgrade to concierge. Besides myself and my husband I do have the two teenage boys so the food and drinks will probably save us alot of money. Besides, we all know how much those park hopper tickets run us!
I also just heard from someone that told me that new volcano pool and the slide are great!
I had PS the luau back in February and it will be the first time for that so I hope that is worth it.
THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!:D

I have one more question guys. Those who stayed concierge, did you still find it necessary to purchase a mug?
I also heard that they changed the mug policy and they are now barcoded and you must scan your mug first to verify your stay there and then wait in line to get your drink?

We were there the last week of June and didn't miss the mug at all. Tea and coffee is available at 6:30 which I appreciated. I did notice the sign, though, at Captain Cook's. It said "unlimited refills." No mention of length of stay. The beverage machines were just as they've always been...no bar code readers.

We didn't purchase mugs- there really was no need for them. The Hawaii building is so close to the pools that it is easy to just run into the lounge whenver you want a drink. We brought cans of soda and bottles of water back to the room to keep in the refrigerator. Coffee, tea, juice, iced tea available all day /evening as well.

No. You probably won't need a mug. They have drinks and bottled water out on ice all the time. Plus there's a fridge in the room. Also...they have chocolate milk and juice boxes but you have to ask for them. :)

In case no one answered this before...I think there's about $100 difference between GV and LV concierge rooms.

Disfans4 and all, I really loved the concierage. We stayed in April, 2000 and missed it this year. We have 3 kids and the money you save in water alone was great. Also, we ate breakfast there almost every morning and I would take granola snacks and mixed fruit to the parks with me for snacks on the run.

I miss Disney so much, I was thinking about a last minute trip either in August of Nov (teacher's convention in NJ).

Could you tell me what price you recieved?

We got a great AP discount back in 4/00 which was $254 for concierage garden view.

Thanks, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, we are going at the end of August and got a rate of $254 (approx.) including tax for a garden view concierge. I believe it was about $50 additional for the lagoon view concierge.
I used a code I found on www.mousesavers.com.

i have a question about the soda, is it in cans? fountain style? And what type of cordials do they have in the evening? Is there wine in the afternoon?

Thanks everybody,

Wendy

I had read somewhere that they changed the mug policy. Seems people who returned to the same hotel year after year would just bring back their mugs since they never changed them. Guess they wised up to it so I had read that they now place a barcode at the bottom which verifies the dates of your stay and you first have to run the mug through a machine before they will let you refill the mug which is causing lines.
I had a feeling you Poly concierge members would tell me the mug wouldn't be needed because I don't see why it is needed either.
They don't mind that you take snacks and drinks and take them to your room or elsewhere?
I do think I have talked my husband into the upgrade, it does make alot of sense, especially when I have my two teenage boys as well whom I'm sure many of you know have large appetites.
