concern about transfers from airport to WDW

After talking with someone at Mears just to get a price to take a shuttle to universal studios, they had mentioned that their shuttle (or what ever they use) would only accomadate 1 ECV. Mears said that it gets tight with 2 ECVs but they can accomadate 2 wheelchairs.

This then brought up a concern about me and my sister's transfer from the airport to WDW. We are both in ECVs and are using Mears for our transfer from the airport to WDW. This is my first time without a vehicle so I don't have a clue as what to expect.

Does anyone know if the Mears shuttles they use at the airports are the same that they use all the time because my sister and I will both be in an ECV? Or Maybe someone has noticed more than 1 ECV on the shuttles?

The CM knew this when taking the reservations and she didn't seem concerned about both of us getting on the shuttle.

I've also posted this thread on the disabilities board.

Thanks,
Joy

Mears uses vans and buses. Don't rely on people here. CALL MEARS, tell them what you need. Get the name of the person who you talk to. Call again the day before to remind them and confirm.

I would recommend posting this on the disABILITIES board, as the folks there have a wealth of knowledge about travelling with ECVs and other types of mobility impairments.

Our DS (aged 6) is wheelchair-bound and we have generally done very well with Mears. The accessible vans they use certainly can accommodate 2 wheelchairs, but not sure if they could fit two ECVs (I would think so, tho they might need to break one or both down a bit). DS rides in his wheelchair, completely strapped in and tied down, and braced in the back by luggage. Now one time, the vans were all in use apparently, and so we waited roughly 30 mins and a wheelchair accessible cab showed up (a Dodge Caravan as I recall), which was pretty tight for all of us, and I remember worrying that luggage might fall on DS during transit.

But hey, if they need to send two vehicles to pick you all up, then so be it; it's a per-person rate after all. PM me if you need a Mears discount coupon, as I have a few to spare (good only for ppl staying on-site tho).
