I was fortunate enough to get a 2 bdrm Boardwalk guarantee room for our short trip in February for ds's 9th birthday. My mom is coming with us (her first trip w/ us since Dec. 04).

However, on further reflection, I'm a bit concerned about all the posts I read regarding location of rooms and how far they are from elevators and such. My mom, while relatively healthy, has had both knees replaced and has a rod in her right femur (result of a bad fracture in '01). Now she can walk, but the longer the walk, the harder it is for her and the more tired she becomes. While many of you might be thinking that she will have trouble in the World, we will bring ds's stroller (he'll be 4.5) so that she can use it to hold on to and aid her along. She's had some trouble with her hips lately (not uncommon once the knees are redone, I hear) so I'd like to make it easier for her if possible.

Should I keep our current ressie or would we be better off if we tried for BCV? While most of our days (only 4) will be at MK, we'll be going back to Epcot 2 of the 3 nights for dinner and it's so much easier being on the IG side of the park in the late afternoon. We'll be staying at VWL in November (just my family) so we wanted to try somewhere new, but if that is a better option, then I will consider that too.

Any help anyone can give regarding room location would be helpful. I have no idea if there is even availability at BCV for our weekend, but if that is a better choice, I'd like to try now. Also, while I love the idea of Stormalong Bay, this year it was definitely not swimming weather (rained the whole first day into the second and finally warmed up). So I'm not sure we'll have a chance to try it out; although BWV seems to have a great pool too.

Thanks.

Both years we stayed at BWV we were in 2br bw view and we have always been right over the Big River Brewery, close to Jellyrolls. This is a fairly long walk to the elevators, but when I toured the Beachclub there seemed to be a decent amout of walking to there bus stop and boat launch, so Iam not sure if the BCV would be alot easier, someone who knows the BC better should ansewer that part.
As far as BWV 2br position I'am pretty sure most of (if not all) of the BW view 2br are a ways away from the elevators.

# 16 i circled is were we always are i also circle the elevator hope this helps.

You can request a room as close to the elevator as possible, though there aren't that many of them on the BW view hallway. Another option would be to ask the front desk for use of a free wheelchair to get her down the hallway, if your room ends up being too far.
BCV would, of course, also be nice, especially if you prefer a more quiet setting. If you like watching the BW activity or the lovely evening and early morning views over the lake, BW can't be matched anywhere in WDW. Point values for either choice should be the same.
Good luck. Have fun. Your memories will last a lifetime!

If you are planning on taking the boat to Epcot and MGM, the boat dock is a fair walk from BCV. When we stayed at both BWV and BCV, we noticed that we did a lot of backtracking to get from the room to the elevators and back to a door to get out of the building.
We have also stayed at VWL; there is a fairly long walk from the villas to the boat dock. The bus stop is fairly close.
If she has trouble walking distances, I'd suggest trying some day long shopping trips with her pushing your DS in his stroller. The plan might be for her to do that, but I'd make sure it actually helps that much before making it the plan. Also be aware that there are some fairly steep hills around some of the parks and keeping a stroller from going too fast while pushing it down a hill might be more difficult than she thinks. You may want to consider an ECV (mobility scooter) for her.

You can check out a wheel chair to use from the front desk for simply a deposit.

I think most 2 bedrooms will be in that orange area. Most of the pink area is taken up by the GV's but there may be 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor which would be closer.

okay I may be crazy. but we have stayed in a lock off (not dedicated) studio about 3 doors down from the elevators.

most of time we get a dedicated studio close to the elevators. but a couple of times it was not dedicated.

I though this was part of the 2-bedroom.

Spicy, was that overlooking the village Green? I really don't know what type of rooms they are. I have heard both BWview and Std. view. I also had heard that they are only dediacated rooms. :confused3 So maybe there are some BW view 2 bedrooms there as well.

Thanks for all of your replies.

I need to make it clear that she's definitely not disabled in any way. It's just that after a long day on her feet, it's harder for her to walk long distances. Her knees are great now that they are replaced, but as anyone who has had a joint replacement knows (or if you know someone who has), once they fix the bad ones like the knees, you realize how much stress you've put on your hips from improper walking (limping, favoring one leg over the other, leaning to avoid full weight). So she thinks that some time in the future, there will be a hip replacement (but not for a few years if we're lucky).

We have been to WDW before with her (after her second knee replacement) so she is aware of the amount of walking and the terrain involved. Whenever we go out (even to the mall) we'll take ds's stroller and she'll push it, sort of using it as an additional aid for stability and it allows her to shift her weight a bit.

I think we'll keep the ressie at BWV, since it doesn't appear to be any more advantageous at BCV or even VWL. I think in the long run it will be fine, since 2 of our dinners are in World Showcase and coming from BWV will be much shorter than coming from VWL.

Thanks all.

sorry if she had knee replacement that fits my description of disability.

to get even close to the elevators it needs to be for medical reasons.
