Hi. I am considering upgrading to concierge if available June 6 thru 11 at WL. And then concierge at AKL for 10th anniversary in December 05. Convince me it is worth the high price. What is included? First trip this june we will have 2 young DD with us. Next trip with be just me & loving hubby.:teeth:
Thanks:teeth:

Can't respond about the WL concierge, but our family stayed concierge level at AKL last June. WONDERFUL!!! One of the best lounges, in my opinion. Love their food choices throughout the day - and the different drink choices in dispensers. Loved the smoothie.

Look into doing the sunrise (or sunset) safari! We did that and it was worth every penny. (It is only available for concierge guests) But make reservations in advance as it sells out. We were lucky as they added another vehicle.

The lounge was very comfortable and it looks out over that incredible lobby.

DH & I put the kids in child care one night (Simba's cubhouse - they really liked it) and we went to Boma's.

DD5 and I loved sitting on the balcony to watch the animals. So cool to see giraffes right in your back yard. :)

Hope you enjoy your stay!!

Jill

I would have to say it's mostly a matter of personal choice.
For us...it's simply how we choose to spend our time. We enjoy these luxuries in life, from first class air travel to suites and CL. Many are just as content in standard means of travel/accomodations. Just as some people do not mind buying faux "knock-off" brand items, I would never contemplate such for myself. It's not a matter of anyone else knowing the items are the genuine "real deal," but simply that "I" would know the truth/origin. As Shakespeare said, "TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE." ::yes:: Therefore, I treat myself to these pleasures, without giving too much thought/worry to the cost. I justify it very easily, and enjoy living life while we are able. After all, our moments are all borrowed...and life is fleeting. Enjoy every moment, to the best of your ability. I know you would LOVE the CL service of AKL, and all the other ammenities (safari's, concierge service, etc.) included. :goodvibes

For me, it's a matter of enjoying life to the fullest. We've always taken our vacations at the All Stars. "All I need is a pillow!" we'd say. We'd look at concierge and pooh pooh the cost, yet always wonder why our MIL spoke so highly of them.

Over a year ago, I shattered my ankle, and thought I'd never walk right again. I had to learn how to walk, just like a baby, without strength to hold me up. It shattered me, for quite some time. Along the way, I realize that there's beauty in little things - an old woman's smile, the light hitting a window a certain way, the laughter of children, spending time with my family. One freakish accident made me realize that I can't take it with me, and that my family would be best off enjoying great memories with their Mom, than all the money in the world.

I've not stayed Concierge level yet, but hope to this winter. We are choosing it for the extra itinerary services, the snacks (we've a thirteen year old who's eating us out of house and home - wanna see what kind of damage he can do to the offerings at concierge... LOL! I think we'll make up the difference alone in the 'free' bottled waters $2.50 a pop for each in a family of four, twice a day?? egads!) and the location.

MOST importantly, we are staying concierge for the Guest and CL Staff interaction. I will NEVER forget being on the Disney Cruise, and becoming very good friends with our Cabin Steward. When I was sea-sick, he brought me cold wet towels, wiped my face, and woke my dead-to-the-world husband. When my children became sick, he went down and brought up medicine. He went above and beyond the call of duty on sooooo many occasions, I can't even mention. On top of that, we became good friends with him, and learned of his country in the Philipines. We learned of his dreams to own a home. We learned of him trying to build a better life, not only for his small family, but for his extended relatives (land ownership is scarce there, and he'd just purchased.) Both our daughters are the same age, and he really enjoyed (and missed his own) playing with her.

That experienced touched us, made us realize that in the hustle and bustle of a typical vacation, you don't get the opportunity to really get to KNOW the individuals who care very much about their jobs to make your vacation sparkle. We are staying Concierge to get to know the people behind the Mouse, the people who care so much about their jobs that they make it a point to go above and beyond, every single day, to make us smile. And THAT, to me, is priceless.

I know it sound stupid, but for us, staying Concierge is NOT about the finer things in life; it's about not only stopping to smell the roses, but to learn about the roses themselves.

Its up to the individual, for me and my family it isnt worth the extra expense cause we wouldnt take advantage of it at all. Personally Id rather spend the extra money on nice sit down dinners out every night.

After we stay at every resort maybe we will go back and check out concierge floors. But to each his own and remember its your vacation so do what makes you happy.

Various opinions on booking concierge. For what it's worth, we have stayed at Value, Moderate and Deluxe resorts at WDW and at Deluxe we stayed CL.

One factor is if you are able to afford it. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who wouldn't have the funds - it is not the "end all be all" and I don't want those whose finances can't afford it feel like they are not getting a great vacation.

That being said, if you have AP, that can make the concierge level much more affordable! Rack rate at AKL is $425 - last year we got it at $249! Definitely worth every penny!

We thought we had a great vacation - loved everything from the moment we drove up to the lodge! We were "taken care of" by Joe, who led us around the lobby showing us everything before we went to our room. He took the time to show us the view from our room - went out on the balcony and pointed out the various animals - and then took us down the hall to see the view of the pool. (Oh, yeah, when we got off the elevator on the 5th floor, he led us out to the small balcony there too!).

When we visited the lounge every day, we were happy to have a variety of food and beverages available. The savings alone to us from that was a lot. We never had to buy snacks. But be aware this is not a place to eat "meals". Outside of a continental breakfast, the food isn't going to be equivalent to a full meal.

For us, the fact that we could do the sunrise safari was a major MAJOR plus!! Definitely do this!! Can't say enough about it!

Also, I thought the CMs at the lounge were great! Sue in particular was so helpful! It was fun chatting with her, and she got PS's for us the same day that were great!

One thing is not having to go to the front desk to check-in! Very nice to just be taken to your room! Another thing was the ability to call ahead and have gifts waiting in the room for our ds's! Also, loved the turn-down service every night and the robes. Also, refrigerators were available that we stuck cold drinks in! The cappucinno machine in the CL was awesome! Loved relaxing up there or getting snacks and going to sit on our balcony watching the animals!

Can't wait to return in Dec!!!!!

A few years ago friends told us about concierge and we thought they were crazy. That is until we tried it ourselves. Having 3 children who are always looking for a drink or snack and love the idea of being able to get it themselves, they consider concierge one of the best parts of their vacation. The convenience, the availability of meals and snacks and just having a place to relax other than your room make concierge a must for our family.

Just so you won't be surprised or disappointed, many Concierge Lounges no longer have individual bottle water.

MickeyMac - Sammie is right, they have recently lost their contract, or something, and don't have individual bottled water in the lounge. But, the Poly had large glass bottles, we asked if we could have some to take to the room, and they were glad to give us some, and you can fill up smaller bottles. AKL CL had water in a carafe, but many posters stated they were told to fill their water bottles, if they wished.::yes::

Sorry to hear about your ankle, I have a plate with screws and pins in my left ankle. Fell and broke it the first time when pregnant with oldest DS, had a tri-malleolar fracture with a fractured fibula, but couldn't do surgery. Fell and broke it a second time about 7 years later, had surgery, hence the plate/screws/pins! That is one painful injury, my friend! I still have mobility problems. Hope you have recovered.

fam4jc - We hadn't tried concierge until our trip a few weeks ago. Couln't see why the higher price, when you could make your own PS's for free, and we eat out all meals. But, after trying concierge, we are hooked. The extra-special treatment from the cm's, the help with ANYTHING we needed, was awesome! And, we found that having concierge book you PS was an added bonus, as well. We never waited more than 2-3 minutes for our table, always got a great table, and this was during Easter week! I can't say enough good things about concierge level!:teeth: If you can fit it in your budget, go for it, you won't regret it!

ACK! No bottled water?? Well bag it! I'm not spending extra for concierge!!

hehheeee, just kidding. We would really like to do it.

...and 'Mom, I canNOT imagine being pregnant on top of that fracture! (my was similar, add the tarsal, but I did have surgery, then again to remove) You poor thing!

What great information! Thank you everyone! I love the idea and will definately do the anniversary trip concierge at AKL. Sorry it took me so long to respond to all you lovely people! There is something really special about these boards... Everyone is so willing to help and give advice. I want you to know that I think you all have great big hearts!:sunny:

I still don't know about going concierge for our current trip in June (39 days:teeth: ). Money is tight on this one. My fear is that after we do concierge I won't want to go any other way!

I agree about life being in the small things; getting to know the people, treating people with kindness, creating memories with your children, etc. All the money in the world won't make a person's heart smile with one simple act of kindness or word of encouragement. The disney cm's are great and we should all take the time to learn about them and offer words of encouragement. Theirs can't be an easy job!

Again, Thank you all:wave2:

I have stayed in concierge-type/boutique resorts across the U.S. and in Europe (work/vacation) and found that those extra perks can be great for the burden they lift off my shoulders. When you're waking up at the crack of dawn and trying to get somewhere, it helps to know that you won't have to go very far to get a bite to eat or to get help making arrangements during your day. I've also stayed at other places without concierge, sometimes by necessity, (any port in a storm, part. when you took the next flight out to the middle of nowhere), but mostly by choice, & it was great too. I often choose non-concierge service just because it's less high-falutin' and nobody cares, or thinks that I'm a blight on the concierge experience, if I look like my hair is actually trying to make a run for it and I'm wearing flip flops when I get a bun off the continental breakfast cart. I don't know if concierge at WDW is like that, mind you, but sometimes I would rather not have to think twice about just getting my first cup of coffee.

This is our first trip to WDW 12 years and I had the same questions too. It was a hard decision because we didn't know if we would really take advantage of all the amenities-- our schedule is packed, and we're really taking advantage of dining at WDW. In the end, we decided to concierge the second half of the trip (WL/YC concierge), since we had scheduled less and would be able to take advantage of all the opportunities concierge has to offer, and it seemed like more of a special perk at the end of our trip. I actually cancelled my paid concierge reservation at WL, and we (3 gals, ages 18-50) decided to focus on hanging out and exploring the time we would have usually spent in a concierge/club lounge. I'm absolutely confident that WL won't be any less of a Disney experience without concierge :) From what I've heard, the WL is magical no matter what! :teeth:

I can't speak to the WDW-specific concierge experience myself, but if it will be a tight splurge and you plan to spend a good amt of time in the parks, I would wait. Consider the extra cash you just "saved" as a downpayment on your next trip! I agree with some posters-- splurge on your anniversary trip!! :) Concierge service will help make it a romantic and stress-free time for both of you, particularly at AKL, where they have the sunrise safari for concierge guests....:D

My fear is that after we do concierge I won't want to go any other way!
Truer words were never spoken! We always stay concierge for many of the same reasons already stated by other posters, but we never thought we'd have trouble "going back" to standard. Boy, were we wrong! Stayed in a standard room in March, as no CL rooms were available, and we really missed the ease & smoothness concierge staff adds to your vacation.
For us, the lounge makes it so much easier when we travel with young nieces & nephews. You can have a lazy breakfast, grab a snack on the way to the pool, no running to Captain Cook's (or whatever snack bar in your resort) to get drinks, there's a place to get away from the room for a bit. The way CMs in concierge make you feel so taken care of is priceless - it makes the trip that much more relaxing. Since I'm the "caretaker" in my family, having someone else to handle everything is the best part of my vacation!

Not to mention..."pirating" of patented/brand name merchandise ("knock-offs") is against the law. Shakespeare...is open to interpretation. To each...his/her own. If you can not afford something, either SAVE enough, until you are able to buy/enjoy the "REAL DEAL" (or simply do not buy it at all). There is NO justification for theft, and buying a knock-off is considered "theft."

*MickeyMac~Beautifully written! We too, came to know our room steward "Marlon" on our most recent 7-night Disney Cruise. He would call DD & I "Princess" everytime he saw us. He was the most caring, kind and attentive man. He was from So. Africa, and was heading "home" after our cruise ended. He said he would probably work more Disney Cruises, as the $$ he can make and save are so much more than he could make in his home town. He missed his family, and was looking forward to some "R & R" with them! You hit the nail on the head...the most beautiful things in life...are not "THINGS" at all, but the magical moments we experience. Thank you, for your uplifting post. :goodvibes

Boy, you have all convinced me. If I can get AP rates at AKL in August or Feb I will have to try it. Both trips will be adults only, one with my sister and one with DH. That means more time will be spent at the resort, also DH and I like to make same day PS for dinner and it sounds easier this way. Even tho I wasn't the one asking I sure do appreciate all the responses. ;)

We have taken two trips concierge, one Poly and one WL (thanks FTP) last year.

With two young daughters at WL, concierge was awesome. We let them go get breakfast and watch TV in the room while my wife and I ate a quiet breakfast overlooking th WL lobby. We ate out big meals at lunch, then using the concierge service for a light dinner. WL has great soup BTW. We had a room overlooking the catle and saw a preview of Wishes the last few nights we were there.

Concierge is expensive. If you use it wisely, it is at best a break even service(FTP excluded were it costs an extra $45 a night wne split over 7 days). The waters were a huge reason alone as we consumed at least $10 in water each day, often more. The drinks and snacks are also can be avoided. I figure between water and snacks, we avoided over $25 a day in basic expenses. We rarely bought snacks in the park, execluding ice cream.

My family is hooked and I doubt we will ever not stay on property in concierge

The term "knock-off' is also open to interpretation. It can be a very close copy, or a counterfeit, which is illegal. Dress makers "knock-off" Oscar dresses every year immediately following the show, and it is perfectly legal. From your post, it seems that you are able to afford and enjoy (what you deem as) the finer things in life. That's great for you. Some people can only afford the knock-offs. I would not encourage purchasing counterfeit items, but see nothing wrong with legal copies.

Getting back to the OP, I think that if you can afford CL and it's something you have always wanted to try, go for it. I am looking into it myself for WL. I, too am afraid if I try it, I won't want to go back. And I am not sure I could afford to do it every visit to WDW.::yes::

What can I say that hasn't already been said?

I look at concierge beyond the food offerings...they are more like a personalized butler service.

And I knew a time when going to WDW was a dream,
much less staying in a deluxe resort...or even concierge level!

I've worked hard to be able to afford these luxuries, and I LOVE sharing my blessings with others.
Concierge makes the vacation just MAGICAL!!!

If one can afford it...do it.

lindajo~The "very close copies" of Oscar fashions produced by "dressmakers" are usually still...VERY EXPENSIVE (and only offered at high~end locations). The colloquialism "Knock~off" is a street term, and derived directly from "copying/pirating" BRAND NAME merchandise. It is...illegal. There is "little/no" room for interpretation here. When someone asks if something is a "knock-off" they are usually questioning the "genuine" validity/origin of the item. The term...."LEGAL COPIES" is an oxymoron. :teeth: (LOL). There's no need to "dissect" my post, please. I was not intending to "offend" the OP with my "take" on the query. I was only relating to the "question" asked by the OP, (with my own perspective/opinion).
