Computer Virus Question?

Has anyone else had this problem. I am unable to access the internet through dsl. My computer keeps saying that it cannot connect. I am on dial up now and it is fine. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem OR is there a virus causing this? Obviously dial up is fine. We have Verizon and as far as the phone line coming intio the house there is no problem. The computer keeps saying we have no dial tone. This problem happened gradually. First, it was only once or twice and I just restarted. Then it became more frequent and now it is to the point that I cannot access at all.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a noisy telephone line. When I plugged in the DSL filter and a regular telephone into the same jack as the DSL, I could just barely hear the dial tone over all of the static noise.

I had this problem earlier this week. We had a power failure overnight and my DSL would not connect in the morning. A car hit a pole on the street over from us and the transformer blew. I was afraid there was a powersurge, even though I have a surge protector. I went to Verizon's troubleshooting and it said to disconnect and reconnect the wires and reboot. That didn't work, so I finally called Verizon. The tech was very helpful. We tried to shut the computer and modem down, wait 15 seconds, then start the modem and then start the computer. Still wouldn't work. So he took me into a website and walked me through resetting my password. After that, it worked. I would give Verizon a call, they should be able to figure it out.
