my monitor is sideways-- the display is sideways help quickly

If you have an ATI video card, try the key combo CTRL-ALT-RIGHT ARROW and see if that rotates the display where you want it.

(I'll assume you didn't just install a new monitor or upgrade your display drivers, in which case we need to look at the settings there. If this doesn't work, tell us a little more about your system and what happened right before the display went tumbling sideways. )
