sorry, guys, normally i can figure out my own computer issues, but this one has me stumped. i've been attempting to sign into my local public library's digital download site for several days, and this is the error i get:

Sign In Error

We're sorry, but the specified library patron account information is not valid.

Details: Failed Patron Information/Patron Status Request to the Library ILS server. (Error Details: No socket data received; the ILS server may have intentionally closed the socket connection.)

i've re-entered my library card number several times, and it's correct...is this problem even on my end? the error details lead me to believe it's an issue with the library's server. the problem with this is, the library is closed, and i've got a hold on an e-book that's going to expire tomorrow, and i've been waiting on this book for some time.

i would really like to figure this out....can anyone decipher that computer mumbo-jumbo?

There may be an actual answer, but the only thing I can think of is to talk to the library tomorrow.

I would suspect that this is a problem at their end. Sounds like your account is messed up somehow. You will probably need to call them early tomorrow to get it resolved.

When you connect in it is similar to calling an operator that has to connect you to the right party. In this example, sounds like the line between the operator and the right party has issues that may be related to your account OR the connections inside the library.

Hope this made sense.

thanks, guys :) i've sent them an e-mail, but am still going to call in the morning, to try to get more time on my book hold.

Do any other family members have library cards that you could test? At least then you'd know if it was your card or the library program.

Or if you happen to have access from another computer, you could see if maybe your system is blocking the program somehow.

my daughter has a card, but hers isn't registered in the e-book system, and her computer is networked with mine, so if mine is blocking something, hers probably is too. i don't THINK it's blocking anything, but i guess i'll find out tomorrow...at least, i hope i do. i tried clearing cookies and restarting my computer and it's still giving me the same error. i even tried using IE instead of firefox...no luck.

UPDATE: according to my local library, they have switched computer systems, and their IT person has not been able to figure out why no one can log in to the e-book system. the person i spoke with on the phone said she lost two book holds last week herself, due to the inability to log in to the system-one of the books she'd been waiting on for 3 months! she did promise to call the IT person again, and let him know the natives are getting even more restless.
